Chad Ford just posted on his twitter the deal is for 2 years.

chadfordinsider: Great deal for C's on Daniels. 2 years, 4 mil for a guy who can play 30 min a night if healthy. He'll have a bigger impact than Sheed

Hopefully it is for two years.

If this ends up being a 2 year deal guaranteed, I don't know what Danny was waiting for, and the more reason not to have made this a sign and trade.

The main motivation of a sign and trade was to unload salary and create a roster slot or two.

Thank you BBall and TP(congrats on 300). I've been trying to say that the trade was more for extra years, a roster spot than extra money for Daniels and keeping the LLE available, but few would listen. The market this year for proven of the bench wings was about $2 million a year. Given it was Daniels desire to come here and here alone, the C's controlled the negotiations and this was always going to end up a 2 year guaranteed deal minimum.

If they traded someone like Tony, the salary could still have been about $2 million because of the 125% plus $100,000 rule in balancing the salary cap books. Daniels might have gotten a bit more but the deal would have been about still having two open roster spots, still having the LLE, and being able to tie up Daniels to three years and have him that extra year.

I also wonder if it was an act to placate Daniels.  The old, oh yeah, we want to pay you more so we'll TRY a sign and trade.  Maybe Danny just had to wait this long to sufficiently convince Daniels and his agent that he had exhausted every scenario possible to get him here via a trade before he'd come here as a FA.

I know what the motivation was, but I think that if we manage to get Daniels for two years @ 2 million which is quite cheap, I think keeping our trade assets easily outweights whatever financial gain we might've had otherwise. To me, it was more important to get Daniels locked up for multiple years than any financial flexibility trading TA, for example, would've provided and his roster spot wouldn't have been of much value at this stage of free-agency considering how our current roster makeup is.

Hope it is two years, but I believe that Daniels was open to a longer term deal if they could pay more money than the LLE.

They have roster slots.

Yes but we all know how Danny loves having his open roster slots to fill in with mid season free agents that were bought out. This year, there might be a bunch. Some candidates:

Marcus Camby
Luke Ridnour
Tony Battie
Mike Miller
Sasha Pavlovic
Al Harrington
Chris Duhon
Bobby Simmons

All these guys are 2010 UFA's, with decent to large contracts, on bad to borderline playoff teams and are on teams that will want to be getting rid of payroll. Buying players like these out of their contracts early to save money only makes sense for those teams. I could see the value in clearing roster slots to add a guy like Camby, Duhon, Miller or Ridnour for the post season run.

It could also be two years with a player option.

If it is two years, no opting out, I'll be very happy.

Won't Sasha be waived before training camp to say the Suns money? His contract is only partially guaranteed right?

Good point. I didn't bother double checking the contracts against the details of the contracts, just if they were in last year status on a bad team with a decent salary. Thanks, TP.

We could potentially get him soon, which would be a good pickup. But I think he'll get BAE offers from some other teams.

The rest of your list looks solid.
