quick name someone from the 15th century.

chances are you named someone with the initials CC

that said, in 500 years when students are looking at world (or perhaps galactic?) history, who will be remembered?  My vote, and I'm taking this from a classic SSfan SOTOTT post, is Neil Armstrong - first man on the moon, that will still be significant in the year 2600 imo...

other ideas? feel free to throw in 20th or 21st century people, places, events, all that goodness

Hitler, Einstein, Gandhi.

Probably in that order too.

EDIT:  Interesting sub-topic.  Who from the 20th/21st century will be seen as much greater in the future then they were in the present?  Kind of like how artists and philosophers get more famous after they die.

I guess it depends how history goes I guess; perhaps there are manuscripts sitting there that no one even knows of that will someday reach the world.  But in this age of information, it is harder for things to slip through the cracks, I'd think.  But yes a great question to ponder

I'm going to doubt it, I wonder if any President from this era will be remembered.  I think within 200 years race as determined by skin color will become irrelevent, and I've heard some estimates that say humans will all be a shade of brown within a few hundred years.

I picture some scientist who's derided as a quack now, but 100 years or so down the line we finally have the technology to demonstrate that they were right all along.  Not so much unheard of than bucking common wisdom in a way that's not currently testable.  Or a the leader of a revolution in some insignificant country, but later on down the line that country becomes a major world power.

I can see that as well - perhaps a new political philosophy comes out of something deemed wrong now, like the Unabomber Manifesto or something, bringing Ted Kozinski into hero status

Kevorkian?

Is it possible the further advanced our medicine gets, and the longer our lives last, the more prominent the liberties over the way we choose to die will become.

On a brighter note, I'd like to think people like Ghandi & MLK will be remembered for the power of peaceful resistance.

Yup

Did you get that from the episode of South Park?

In 500 years the SOTOTT will be memorized by all and recited as gospel.
