Lets see how well we can dictate the NBA market. Please post what you voted and why you believe he'll make that amount.

My predication is $6 - $8 Million (3 years $20 - $25 Million). I think the ownership group will recognize Allen's market value (MLE) and offer a contract slightly above that mark.

Hmm...  I went with $9 to $11 million.  I can see him on a 3 year, $27 million deal.  It might be on the high side, but I think the team will pay to keep Allen in green.

I'm going 9-11 million too, not so much because I think the C's couldn't get him for a little less, but because I think they'd be better off paying a couple extra million a year to keep him happy.

Personally, I'd prefer something for two years.  KG and Wallace each have two years left after this coming season, so having KG, Wallace, and Ray all expire the same year would give us tremendous flexibility (and possibly Paul, if they extend him one year).  And if for some reason the C's win 3 in a row and look like they have another one in them, DA can always bring them back for one more year.

I think there's a chance Ray might settle for less to stay in Boston and try to add a couple more rings over the next 3 years. After that, I'd like to see him retire here and get his number in the rafters.

So I'm thinking 5-8 million over 3 years.

11 million for a guy who should be coming off the bench i think that is a bit steep in this economy with the other options out there in 2010 FAs. 6-8 mil is about right for him.

I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about.  Ray Allen had his most efficient season ever shooting the ball.  He was excellent in the playoffs against Chicago.  How many bench players in the NBA are as good as Ray Allen?  One?  (Manu Ginobili).  I can't think of many (or any) others.

(Also, $27 million / 3 = $9 million per season).

Do you guys really want him to have a three year extension?  I'm all about keeping Ray on board, but that's one year beyond the last year of KG and Wallace's deals.  Wouldn't it be better to have them all expire the same year?

I think his value will be 6-8M a year. But he is probably going to want a 3 year contract and we are not going to want to go over 2 years to match up with KG/Sheed's contracts. So we might have to offer a contract in the 9-11 range/year for him to sign a 2 year deal instead of 3.

BTW, Ray just this picture posted this on his twitter - discussing a contract right now? :)

Yah, I think Ainge maximum offer will be 3year $27mill. I don't know how Ray feels getting the same paycheck as Krusty the Clown in Cleveland. Won't be surprised if one of those contending teams offer more.

if he has another efficient season like last season, i see him in the 9-11 range. it also depends on the number of yrs he is looking for.

i voted $6-8 million.

the thread title did not say whether we should vote on what we WANT the salary to be, or, what we THINK the salary will be.

i WANT him to sign for $6-8 million...not impossible.

If the question is how much will Ray Allen make next season then I just dont know. But, if the question is how much will Boston pay him next year then my answer is zero. I hope I am wrong because Ray is one of the few players that I really like. I mean, the guy is a class act all the way and just happens to have the sweetest stroke in the game.

The thing is though, he has an almost 20 million dollar expiring contract. Next year is one of the biggest free agent classes ever, headed by Lebron. If you dont think that every GM in the league would love to have Lebron, or even a decent chance of getting him with D Wade or Bosh as consolation prizes then think again.

If it's one thing that Danny Ainge understands it's that basketball is a business. It's my opinion that Ainge will trade Ray at midseason and come out smelling like a Rose. If Big Al can be traded so can Ray. Possibly to Detroit for say Rip and ...? Anyway, Ray is a class act and deserves in the 7-9 million range, if that was a choice.
