  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
It sounds like Doc & Danny did Powe dirty...

How sad. :'(

cant really fault celts for not signing him.  if he didnt hurt his knee, it would have played out alot differently and he would be in green.

I too think that Powe overracted and ended up signing with CLE for the same amount the BOS probably offered from the front.

Good luck with the rest of your career Leon Powe. Thank you for your contribution to #17.

..from here, the Celtics will be fine without him.

Danny Seems like a pretty straight shooter; but they needed to reach out to hi more than they did. I think it was hard for everyone because they saw the writing on the wall. No way the C's would do a one year deal without the team option for year two. Leon should have understood that. He probably was insulted by the level of the offer. Too bad.

Good move by Danny and Steve. Especially with BBD and Rasheed coming into the fold.  Powe has torn that same knee up 3 times. I wouldn't take money out of my pocket neither for a gamble like that.  I love the kid, but he's as injury prone as they come. That knee will need some major time and it will take days for him to even come back from that, if at all.

Even The Cavs waited until Doctors examined him before they gave him a contract. The Celtics were just doing the same. Leon felt disrespected and the Celtics moved with caution. I'm very happy with our roster and wish Leon well. Go Celtics!

Yeah, I feel the same way.  Powe is a "Celtic for life", much like Delonte, Big Al, etc.  It stinks that two of them are on our biggest rival for the Finals.

yea it does.  its funny though...although i liked big al, i dont miss him so much...likely bc we got kg in return.  delonte on the other hand, will always be a celtic for life.  something about the way he plays (balls to the wall, no fear), along with his personality, that makes u like the guy!

Yea. Seriously. Powe was the man, on and off the court. Too bad Ainge gave him the cold shoulder too. Sucks for us b/c he'll be back come playoff time and he'll shut our backup PF down(BBD)
Can't stop, Rondo!

well said, there is no place on this team for him. He's far too overrated on this board. He may never recover from his knee problems, ever, and even at full strength, he was a garbage man who grabbed boards and points due to the attention the defenses gave to KG and Perk and everyone else around him.

Was this meant to be sarcastic?

I think a lot of this is Leon being smart enough to go where he'll actually play.  Even if he was completely healthy right now, he'd likely be the 5th big on this team and be getting zero playing time.  Even if someone went down, he'd still only see 10 mpg or best.

I think he went to Cleveland because when he's healthy, he'll be the 4th big and there's a good chance that Shaq and Big Z won't be healthy at some point, so he'll get even more PT.

It's a smart business move.  Two years from now when he may have played himself into a new contract.  That never would've happened  here where he would have been completely buried on the bench.

zero playing time? Does anyone remember the injuries this year? You can never have too much depth on any team, as soon as you do then something happens and you realize how important depth is.

To say Leon over reacted then you are not taking into account the type of player he is. With passionate people you get passion on and off the court.. and I much preffer that myself than a cookie cutter role player. just my opinion

..and lets face it, Ainge doesnt always play the cards well

Exactly. Danny didn't proceed well in this case and let me remind you that he did let the best 6th man in NBA walk away last summer... And let's not forget some of his moves during the pre-KG era.

I agree: Danny sometimes screws up bad.

[dang], when I thought I couldn't get any more disappointed and sad after Leon's departure to the Cavs, we learn that Danny offered him the same contract and that he refused it... quite logical from Leon's part though, since he will get a bigger role and more minutes in Cleveland than what he would have got in Boston.

Still, it sucks to see him leave us when he didn't want to but it's too late now.

not at all, as I said, leon is way to overrated on here. Even a healthy leon wouldn't play much on this year's team.
