I like both country and rap, and honestly despite the sound, there's a lot of commonality between the two - both are very big on storytelling, especially if you enjoy artists off the beaten path a little bit - just as most real hip hop heads hate lil wayne, most country fans hate groups like Big N Rich...

I can't understand why there's such a double-standard regarding women "criminals" and men "criminals".

For instance, there was a story just recently about a teacher(female) who had sex with a 17-year-old boy and what did she get as punishment?  5 years....PROBATION.     Oh and I heard/read nothing about her being put on the "Registry" either.

Here is the link to the story :  http://www.mycentraljersey.com/article/20090810/NEWS/90810044

And let me say this :  If that were a man who had sex with a 17 year old girl?  He'd be thrown in jail and registered as a Sex offender faster than you can say Megan's Law(which, IMO, is nothing but a joke law that needs to be tweaked a bit).

that's my beef.   Women get all the breaks just 'cause they don't have a "johnson" like Men do down there.  It's total bullcrap...

I don't understand why basketball players routinely say in interviews that "God helped me make the winning basket," yet when they miss the winning basket, they never say "it was all God's fault."

None of this makes any sense.   You are saying you go 3 blocks east and 12 cars north but that is not the ratio of drives that go that way.  It would be 3 blocks east and 30 blocks north because for every driver that goes east/west there are 10 that go north/south, so that would not be the ratio.  And I'm not talking about blocks, or city blocks I'm talking about suburb roads and such. The lights are wasing time and gas I know for a fact because I have seen it thousands of times.

It's not a ratio. The same car goes east THEN north. People don't drive in one direction. Of course gas is wasted when people wait at lights, but your proposed solutions DON'T IMPROVE THE SITUATION if you look at the whole system.

Your example again is based around one intersection. Try scaling it out to a whole system and the routes people take. You completely miss the point if you just look at one intersection.

Anyway, enough said. Yes, I agree it sucks to sit at an intersection. But do you really think that with all of the billions of dollars spent on traffic systems, that nobody has considered how many cars go in each direction?

Sorry, but frustrated drivers fail at network flow. If they had their way, traffic would be twice as bad.

Nothing that I am talking about revolves around one intersection.   I am talking about many many many traffic lights as many as millions in this country.  And I'm not talking about intersections where traffic goes equally both ways.   I am talking about traffic lights that every time you get to one there are 10 cars lined up waiting north/south, and 2 cars at most waiting east/west.    So everytime you get to a traffic light like this everybody is sitting and waiting north/south, but at most 2 cars are waiting east/west because much fewer people are going on those roads.

What is so difficult to understand about this?    If you took just one of these traffic lights and counted for an entire day the amount of cars that stop and wait at the light going north/south it would be around 5,000.  And the amount of cars that stop and wait at the light going east/west would be around 500.    With so fewer cars going east/west, why would the traffic light be 60/40?  In other words why would you get a green for 30 seconds and then a red for 20 seconds going north south every 50 seconds? You should be getting a green for 2:10 and one red for 20 seconds every 2:30 that would save a huge amount of gas & time.

How can you tell me that this is not more gas/time efficient?

Why do you keep telling me that if it worked that way people would have already figured out what to do with the lights?

How can you tell me that people do not go one way for a long period of time on one drive.  I know for a fact routes and roads that are around me where I can go through 20 or 30 traffic lights in a row going one way on a main road without any turns to get to my destination.

If there wasn't a problem with these traffic lights than roughly an equal number of cars would be sitting and waiting going north/south as there would be east/west.   But this is not the case.  I know of thousands of examples.    Every time I get to one of these traffic lights I'm telling you there are 10 cars backed up each way north/south sometimes as many as 20, and there are never more than 5 cars backed up each way east/west.  How many times do I have to explain this?

The age of consent where that took place was probably sixteen years old. The legal action taken on the woman was probably because she had sex with a student, not that the student was under the age of consent. Although I completely know what you're saying, and I understand the double standard, that particular case doesn't need any further punishment, in my opinion.

If you watch one of these traffic lights for 24 hours straight, you will notice that when the light turns red north/south there are an average of 20 cars who wait at the light.  When the light turns red east/west there are an average of 2 cars who wait at the light.   And it happens every time the light turns red.   There is always a wait and a backup north/south, stopping as many as 20 cars at once.   And there is never a wait and a backup east/west because there are at most 2 cars there and the light changes for them every 30 seconds.    There is clearly something wrong with traffic lights like these.  Because if there wasn't then an equal amount of cars would be waiting at reds going north/south as they would going east/west.  But that never happens, there is always 10 times as many cars who get stuck at the red going north/south because the lights are not run correctly.

Can you finally figure out what I am talking about?

if I were a pro athlete, I'd totally do this...

I sure hope Kobe reads this blog so he can use this when we beat him in the finals in 2010

the question is, why are you watching a light for 24 hrs?

I enjoy the storytelling of SOME rap.  I love listening to Eminem because he combines good lyrics with a good sound (beat, voice, flow).  Unfortunately, about 80 percent of rap artists I hear in today's hip hop culture can't do either, never mind combine them.  I must say rap in the 90s is significantly better, but it still doesn't come close to rock or country.
The thing I like about country is most songs have a good sound.  Also, I can better relate to the lyrics that the artists write.  Whereas hip hop and rap songs are COMPLETELY hit or miss for me (and I think most other people).
The thing I REALLY don't understand is how a rich white kid can relate to songs about sex, drugs, and violence from the ghetto.
For the record, lil wayne makes me want to rip my ears off.

check out Kanye West's first album, College Dropout...its easily one of my favorite storytelling, relatable cds (and I'm a middle class white guy)

I actually enjoyed his first 2 albums a lot.
"Heard 'em Say" is one of my favorite hip hop songs.
His last two albums?  I can't listen to any of those songs.

I strongly disagree.   You can't sit there and tell me that if it was reversed and it was a Male teacher having sex with a 17-year-old girl, that he wouldn't have been charged with rape and put on the sex offender registry, age of consent or not?

I mean come on.....The Double-Standards are so obvious, it's not even funny.

It is said that there are less Female sexual predators out there than Men.  You know why that is?  'Cause most don't get reported or those that get arrested, serve their time, and then get out to continue their lives....WITHOUT BEING IN THE SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY.  AND THAT IS WHAT REALLY TICKS ME OFF, Man.   >:( >:( >:(

Men who were put away via Megan's law and then had to put their names on the registry, wound up having their lives completely destroyed and CONTINUOUSLY Destroyed wherever they go 'cause of the registry telling people where they live.

Now that's not to say I'm being sympathetic to them...Far from it.  I'm just saying that if Men have to have their lives destroyed, WOMEN SHOULD SUFFER THE SAME PUNISHMENT instead of getting a slap on the wrist.
