OK, here is my question.  Would anyone consider sending Youk to San Diego for Gonzalez?

no, you need him for third.

OK, here is my question.  Would anyone consider sending Youk to San Diego for Gonzalez?

Has that even been thrown out there as a rumor?

I was under the impression that Gonzalez would cost the Sox prospects, not established talent.

That would change my view of things but I hadn't heard anything of the sort.

It was mentioned on WEEI a couple days ago, but not as a rumor, just a talking point.

But I think it would be an interesting scenario.  They both have similar production, with Youk being a better OBP guy, and Gonzalez bringing more power.  Youk's cost certainty may interest San Diego, while Gonzalez' youth would interest the Sox.

I absolutely don't think it has any chance of happening, just curious what people would think if it did go down.

I wouldn't do it.  I like Youk's OBP and position versatility.

Gammons on Espn just said he thinks the Red Sox will wind up with one of the big three before the day is over, but sees the sox most agressive right now after Gonzo

Thought this was really funny

THURSDAY, 7:58pm: Jayson Stark and Buster Olney of ESPN.com report that the Yankees inquired about Bannister, but talks didn't develop because the Yankees asked the Royals to pay the $650k that remains on Bannister's 2009 contract. Since when does $650k stop the Yanks from making a deal? As Stark and Olney say, welcome to the wacky world of baseball 2009.

9:53am: Yahoo's Tim Brown says the Red Sox will "engage Ricciardi early" today on Doc before going after Adrian Gonzalez or Victor Martinez.  However, when quizzed by Brown earlier this morning about the Halladay talks, Ricciardi replied, "Nothing going."

10:01am: MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan says the Rangers' talks for Halladay "appear to have broken off" and are "somewhere between dead and on life-support."  Seems like the Rangers are unwilling to trade pitcher Derek Holland, especially after last night's gem.

If Halladay is moved it will be at 3:55. Toronto is playing hard ball, as they should for an elite pitcher.

anybody not crazy about giving up Buchholz for Victor M.

I'd be down with moving him for Halladay, but not so much for a part time player.

10:22am: ESPN's Jayson Stark says the Red Sox still "have pokers in the fire" on Gonzalez, Martinez, and Roy Halladay.  Stark continues to suggest the Sox may try to include a third team to faciliate one of these deals.

The Tigers acquired pitcher Jarrod Washburn from the Mariners, according to Mike Salk of ESPN radio in Seattle.

you guys think there's any chance we could end up with two of the big three (Halladay and Gonzalez?)

That would pretty cool (except we'd lose all our prospects.)

I could see Adam LaRoche heading to the Pads in the Gonzo deal

They were talking about Laroche leaving in the Martinez deal so i think it would make sense in a gonzo deal too

The Tigers acquired pitcher Jarrod Washburn from the Mariners, according to Mike Salk of ESPN radio in Seattle.  Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports agrees, saying the Mariners will get Luke French and another prospect.  MLB Network says the other prospect is Mauricio Robles (both are pitchers).
