I keep telling myself, its just a slump, they will break out of it.  They do this every season and always seem to come out of it and do fine.  The management will make a move at the deadline and boost the spirits of the team.

Im getting tired of these excuses and really wish they would start performing again.  Our once incredibly deep pitching step looks about as shallow as the kiddy pool. Beyong Beckett and occasionally Lester recently they have been pretty weak.

Jason Bay was made to look like a fool a couple of times last night

Varitek is back into grounder too second then sprint to the dugout to get his pads back on mode.

And now there is supposedly no deal close on Halladay.  Please tell me things will get better

In Theo we trust!

I think the team is certainly looking for a boost.  Theo needs to provide one.  The problem is WHERE?  Who do you dump?
Yup

If they get victor I say we gotta either dump Lowell or Ortiz

Their lineup scares no one any more.  Ortiz and Lowell aren't the hitters they once were.  The Sox could really use another big bat in the middle of their lineup, a guy like Manny Ramirez, for example.

their #1 target is adrian gonzalez, who i personally would love to see in a red sox uni.  btw, if pitching is our issue (penny and smoltz) then instead of trading it away, promote buckholtz to the rotation and give him a whirl.  i think it's time the sox take some of their prospects out for a spina dn see what they can do.

Excuse my language but screw Manny... We don't need self centered jerks and cheaters like him on our team... But I very much agree taht we do need a bat but Lowell hit well last night he still is very much on the decline and so is Ortiz... I would love to get Victor Martinez here or Adrian Gonzalez but it depends on what we would have to give up... Just at the half-way mark of the season I felt there was no way this team wasn't going to win the World Series and you know what I trust Theo and the players and still believe even with us play like crap right now that there is still no way we won't win the World Series.  MLB has a long seasons and a lot of changes occur durring it so I think it's just a matter of time that the Sox will get back to their old winning ways!

Calm down, he didn't even say he wanted Manny back.  He said the Sox need a Manny-like bat. ::)

Anyway, there is no way we're getting Adrian Gonzalez.  He's signed for reasonable dollars and is the face of the franchise.  There is no reason to trade him.

I'm not a Sox fan, but this made sense last year at the trade deadline and makes sense now, I don't care how good Jason Bay might be, there is only one Manny Ramirez.  And your snot nose know it all sabermetrics GM should've known then, you pick up the guys option, cause he changes the entire line up.

wouldn't have changed much to start the year, what with the drug suspension and all.

Agreed, but right about now, with him rested and the rest of the bats in the lineup slumping mightily, it might've helped.  A  Lot.

instead of a big bat, maybe its time to play a little more small ball?

Maybe they need another bench-clearing brawl to wake these guys up and galvanize the team...hey, it worked in 2004 :P

Every player goes through a bit of a slump, but it is tough when everyone in the lineup is going through one at the same time it seems.  I would like to see them use Lowell for his bat early in games, then replace him with Youk and put LaRoche at 1st for a solid late game defensive lineup, or start LaRoche and use Lowell as a solid bat off the bench.  Not the best scenario for everyone involved but something needs to change.

On a side note, what is with Joba Chamberlain and starting stuff with teams best hitters?  He threw one over Longoria's head last night, and has done it to Youk more than once...what is this kid's problem?

Ur right... I just hate hearing the name Manny Ramirez... But if we can't get Gonzalez which we probably can't how about Victor Martinez?  We would have to do some manuevering around with the roster but I trust Titto with being able to keep players ego's in check and give us a roster to have a good chance to win every time we step on the field.

the thing about filling a need in the middle of the lineup for me is not so much about power as it is hitters that the other team doesn't want to pitch to.

and as popular as Gonzalez is for his power, he's actually only hitting .252.

Victor on the other hand can get VERY hot. but again, he's only hitting .284.

the thing about Manny was that he had the SLG% and BA. that's really what made him the fearsome hitter behind Papi.

that's why I personally focus on Hanley. he has that combo of power and efficiency that would just ignite the middle of our lineup.

if you catch Martinez at the right time, he could do it, but he wouldn't be an every day player for us which would play against how hot he can get at the plate.

frustrating situation to fix.

There's no question that with Manny the bad outweighed the good.

But the good--35 home runs, 120 rbis and a .300 average-- is not to be sniffed at and is very, very difficult to replace.
