keep in clean fellas =)

first question:

would you rather be the best player on a bad basketball team, or the worst player on a championship team (only getting garbage minutes)?

Having been the best player on a bad team and never winning a championship, I would say championship team would be better.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

Whichever team is having more fun. I've been the best player on a bad indoor soccer team but had a blast... I don't know though, probably worst player on a championship team.

Been in both situations andby far its being the last person on the bench on a championship team. Sooo many memories from that team. So many bad memories from the terrible team even though I put up pretty good numbers.

I struggle with this one, b/c if I'm the best, we're not winning any games, but I do like playing so much (in any sport) that to feel left out stinks too...

I'm going best on worst...

Rather be the best player on a bad team - with an eye towards improving my team.

Do you honestly believe Gabe Pruitt took as much satisfaction in the 2008 title as KG did?
Yup

See I would agree with this but it was in reverse for me. I won two ships then got the chance to start in my senior year. We then proceeded to finish last in our region. My school three peat-ed followed by no playoffs. Ouch.

It depends how you define contribute lol. To team morale? Yes. I was the guy in the locker room that kept everyone loose. Think Sam Cassel. By the time I was actually good enough to get some burn, we lost all of our good players. I worked like crazy on my game before my senior season and it definitely paid off. I guess I wish I had done more sooner and maybe I could have seen the floor earlier. Still no real regrets. I had the time of my life on those teams and made lifelong friends.

Best player on a bad team.

1)  I will be payed like the best player
2)  There is always the chance the team improves.
3)  There is little chance I will lose my job to a 2nd round rookie.
4)  I likely will be remembered for a longer time.

Next question,

...be a rich and famous athlete who wouldnt have made it to the pros without doing steroids or whatever designer drug is out there, or an athlete who couldnt make it despite training hard and cleanly for years giving it your best effort every day.

Edit: This on will take some honesty.

that is a tough one, but I'll say the one who never made it, b/c I'd be able to face myself in the morning...

My biggest strength was always in the classroom, and I prided myself on never lowering myself to cheat or be academically dishonest.  While I saw others around me doing it, I worked hard, used my natural abilities and was the best student I could be.

Right, but when you cheat on a test, you are cheating yourself. If you do PEDs you are cheating the system. I have never cheated acedemically either but if someone was going to pay me millions to be a superhuman athlete, I may sing a different tune. Just playing devil's advocate and bumping this thread bc I love the idea.

This is a tough one. My problem would be keeping the charade going. The burden of guilt would rip me to shreds personally. Also, you're not only cheating the system and yourself, you're also cheating the fans. I'd rather be the struggling athlete. You can't put a price on integrity.

haha, I see them as one and the same though, many people cheat their ways through academia and end up with pretty good jobs.  There's a great (well maybe good) documentary by ABC on cheating in the classroom which shows how much pressure a lot of hsers and college students feel to perform, thus leading less than capable students to make up for it by cheating.  Even sometimes academic superstars cheat. We've all heard of JFKs ghostwriters and MLK's plagiarised dissertation, not to mention the countless books that come out that turn out to be lifted in part by some leading scholars.. its kind of sad, but I think the analogy here to sports works...
