Who would you rather trade Scal or Tony Allen in the Daniels deal?

  What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time there were probably more people who thought Scal was the absolute worst player in the league than people who thought he could fill a role for us.

I don't think either is very good. But if Doc can't trust Tony enough to play him, even when we really needed a backup two to defend, then he serves no purpose.

Scal at least can fulfill his role, within his limited capabilities.

I'd much rather trade Pruitt, JR, and Walker, than just Tony.  I hate how their talent is just wasted sitting on our bench.
But I guess I'm the only guy on this site who didn't inherit the 'hate Tony' gene.

1) When has Tony ever "tak[en] names"?  (other than in perhaps one of his criminal pursuits); and

2) What makes you think his injuries are behind him?  Didn't he have another surgery this off-season?

“They need a third team, and that’s complicated,” one source said. “No other teams have jumped at it so far.”

The guy has negative trade value, despite having a cheap, expiring contract.  It takes an extra-special player to be the guy other teams wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.

Yes he had in fact 2 surgeries this year.  The wrist surgery midseason and the ankle surgery immediately after the season.

Can't for the life of me remember when Tony's "taken names," but his name's been taken, for sure. Ask law enforcement, from Kansas to Oklahoma, through Chicago, etc.

Taking likes and dislikes out of the equation about each player (though I do like Scal more), our simple objective need is at the 4/5 spot.  Right now, Scal's our 4th big.  If TA stayed and Daniels came on, Allen would at best be our 4th 2/3 with Walker and Giddens available to play the 2/3 and House available at the 2. 

Simply put, TA's (limited) role is very replaceable.  Right now, Scal's isn't.

Scalanbrine is probably the most replaceable player in the entire NBA.

I'd argue there are better options than both players at the minimum.  Wonder why the Celtics are having a hard time convincing anyone to take them? 

I don't believe that Scalabrine's name isn't coming up with Indiana because Boston isn't throwing it out there. 

Is Bill Walker enough enticement for Indiana to take on Scalabrine's contract?

There are a bunch of guys who can replace Brian Scalabrine's talent but few who would willingly, let alone enthusiastically, fill his role. Besides he is a perfect 4-5th big. Would I rather have him for the league minimum? absolutely, but that isnt his fault.

Tony Allen is simply a pretty good athlete with poor judgement and haunting past character issues. We are in a 'no defect' society when it comes to everyday people and that extends to mediocre athletes as well. If he were a superstar at anything, he would have more value regardless of his warts.

I have an acquaintance that has a 10 year old DUI conviction that is having a tough time getting a decent job in the health care field even with good credentials otherwise.

Even Michael Vick just got conditionally reinstated to the NFL. He is a much bigger knucklehead than Tony Allen, but I think the teams will line up to sign him.
