The Pacers are reportedly dissatisfied with what the Celtics are offering - with the primary bait said to be guard Tony Allen and possibly Gabe Pruitt.

As a result, according to a source close to negotiations, the Celtics and Indiana are now searching for a third team to make the trade work.

But why are they dissatisfied? They could possible end up with nothing at all. So who else could they want besides Tony, Scal and Pruitt? House? Yeah, right.

And it also mentions that Boston and New Jersey shot down the rumors:

Quote
Though the Celtics have attempted to include restricted free agent Glen Davis in several sign-and-trade deals with other teams, sources with the Celtics and New Jersey both shot down a rumor this morning that both teams were attempting to make such an arrangemen work.

I bet there is a three-team trade cooking involving us, New Jersey and Indiana.

That seems to make sense, given the rumors.  Any ideas which players might be involved from NJ?

There's a pretty good trade idea here: Link.

Because they like Walker as a player and don't want to give him up for a player they can sign anyways. Alternately the Pacers won't give up Diener, or don't like Walker.

Heck maybe they don't have room for another player to "develop".

then just sign daniels without the sign and trade...cut gabe august first, bury tony on the bench until later when you can use his expiring contract and move on

I think that's likely what will happen. But I think Danny will keep working the phones till the end of the week.

I think he'll follow through and sign a one year LLE deal. Then hope to cash in like Gortat/Posey/Ariza/etc.

I believe that Daniels' agent has gone on record saying that Daniels has agreed to sign for the BAE with the C's, if they cannot agree on a sign and trade.  So I am not too worried about this.

I will say though, if this lasts past August 1st (it is a key date, when many unguaranteed contracts become guaranteed), then I will start to worry.  Until then, I think it is just two teams who are in no hurry, trying to explore every option before pulling the trigger.

yeah..the august 1st date is what is scaring me...to me a deal needs to be done...also that is the day danny must make a decision on gabe and IMO...he would prolly like to get something for him before cutting him loose on 8/1.

There is also the possibility that Danny is trying to use the Bowen to the Celtics rumor as leverage to get the Pacers to make the deal his way. I think the Pacers do the deal with Bill Walker included but Danny is offering Pruit instead. Tony Allen goes either way.

Guess we will find out soon enough.

Listen, he would take the LLE for only one year, that is certain, after earning more than $7M and having a career season. But why would we want that debate all over again next year? We would take a chance again on not getting anybody like in 2008. This is why we basically need to do the S/T, and Indiana is trying to benefit from that, no doubt.

I agree completely.

Honestly, what I think they are looking for is a third team that allows Indy to get nothing by a TPE for Daniels.  I don't think Indy has any interest in taking on the C's garbage (Tony, Giddens, Pruitt), especially given how close they are to the luxury tax.

But if a third team (like say, NJ) were to be involved, and could take on Tony's contract with their cap space or trade exception, it allows Indy to help out Daniels (and his agent), by getting them more money, and he gets a nice asset in a trade exception to then use on someone they actually want, rather than a guy like Allen.
