Honestly nick I did not like a number of the players on your team just as players in the real NBA, but I kinda like what you've done here offensively. Anyone in your starting 5 is capable of putting up solid points on a given night in at least two ways, which is solid. I just have defensive questions with a few in the rotation. For example, players like Gray and Wally really can't move, and in my opinion can't be getting serious minutes for a team with division title aspirations. I like Darrell Arthur though, and he and Anderson can make an interesting PF tandem for awhile. Plenty of energy there. I'd play Hilton over Gray behind Biedrins and feel somewhat confident there, but I see the wing as a legitimate issue. Daye's no good this year in my opinion, and Wally is Wally. CJ Watson is too concerned with what hes gonna do with the ball to concentrate on defense, so I don't like that defensively, and Carter can't be a wing option. If you can address that, I'd feel more comfortable.
However, all in all I'm impressed with your ability to make me feel good about a roster filled with players I really don't like haha
Defense will definitely be an issue as it always is with young teams, and this team is young. But I'm confident that with Van Gundy installing a defensive system that is similar to what we see here in Boston in the real NBA, that that should lessen the individual difficiencies of the players.
I love Arthur and see him as a young Leon Powe without the knee problems. By the time he's 25 he will be better than the real, uninjured Leon was this year. The center backup will be up for grabs and I think could be fluid with Armstrong needed for his defense(he's a turnover machine and not a great offensive player) and Gray for his offense(he has a nice low post hook and plays okay back to basket if he gets his position, which he's good at). Gray's defense is not great as his speed, lateral movement and shot blocking abilities are bad.
I'm thinking of using Watson exclusively as a 2 guard and leaving Wally at small forward to go in with whoever is subbing for Anderson so that the floor stays spread with Wally's outside shooting. If Wally tries to drive to the basket or post up SFs word has it that Van Gundy will have him doing laps around the Mall in DC in the dead of winter if he does so even once.
I'm thinking Watson, Wally, Singleton, and Gray might be had in trades for the right fit but overall I love all the different skills the bench and team has. There's 3 point shooters(Wally, Anderson, Watson, Martin and Jackson on occasion), athleticism(Martin, Felton, Watson, Jackson, Anderson, Armstrong), size(Biedrins, Armstrong, Gray, Jackson at the 3, Martin at the 2 and Anderson and Singleton), speed(Felton, Martin, Jackson, Watson, Armstrong, Singleton, Arthur) and passing(Felton, Carter, Jackson, Anderson, Gray).
Beware: Let the DC Boxers hype machine begin!!!!
