I think Danny should offer BBD a two year $5 million contract.

Quote from: billysan on July 22, 2009, 10:31:32 PMAs much as I like BBD and would love to keep him in our rotation, there is a cold hard fact here IMO. He is making a bad judgement call in believing he will get a 'big contract'. I dont blaming him for waiting to see how the market plays out, but he would have much more leverage if he accepted the Celtics Qualifying offer soon for just one year.In the current market with the economy driving down the cap, teams clearing room for the supposed Lebron, Wade, Bosh sweepstakes next season, there just isnt a team willing to overpay for him. Next season the teams with all that cap room will be more likely to overpay or sign long term deals after they lose out in the sweepstakes.Again, just my opinon but I think it is all about the timing and in this case it is looking poor. Loyalty this season to the Celtics organization would be worth more coin next season on the open market. There is also the possibility that Ray Allen is off the books or signed at a reduced rate that allows more ready cash.I look for Rondo to make this same mistake in overestimating his value.I think with another decent year, one of the teams that doesn't land a top tier free agent will overpay for Rondo and then we will be screwed. I do not think a team would make the same mistake with Baby, but with Rondo, they would be getting a VERY good [proven] championship point guard (with the potential to improve)...

KG averaged 31 mpg last year (a career low), Perk averaged 30, and Wallace averaged 30. That's 91 mpg used up out of 96 possible minutes at the 4/5 spots. I really can't see them playing any of those players less than 28 mpg either, which would only leave 12 mpg for Baby. Come playoff time, I can't imagine that there will be any minutes (barring foul trouble) for a 4th guy.I agree that Davis would be nice for depth, but unless there's an injury, I don't see him playing a big role here next year. And that's why I wouldn't be devastated gambling on Powe. He's arguably as good as Baby, and any downgrade he is, wouldn't be that big of deal in the whopping 5-10 mpg they'd play. Similarly, if we had to use someone else like Scal or a FA until Powe came back in those limited minutes, it wouldn't matter either.
I selected "other." As I've said in prior posts, the right thing to do is nothing, until another team makes him a offer. The ball is in BBD's court, and if the Celtics were to offer him something now they'd be bidding against themselves.Meanwhile, if I were Ainge, I would be putting out feelers to the agents for Diogu and Kleiza, so that in case BBD gets an above-market offer, you have "Plan B" in place.

First, I would be surprised if Rasheed played more than 25 minutes per this season. I believe there will be a solid 15 MPG for Big Baby.Secondly, let me show you the games missed last season by each of those three:Rasheed - 16 games missedPerk - 6 games missedKG - 25 games missedTotal: 47 Games Missed47 games missed, more than half an NBA season. Now I'm not saying those three will miss that many games, but I would be very surprised if any of the three of them played more than 75 games. And each game one of those guys misses will be a game that Big Baby becomes the 6th man/spot starter. Ultimately, Baby could have close to or more than 20 mpg, and is an invaluable insurance policy.
Personally I'm leaning more towards Jon. Also, I'd rather have Scal as the backup PF than BBD.
I really think BBD may be the key to us winning banner 18. It's not that, by himself he is that great, but with everything else we have he may be the missing ingredient. When Shaq or Howard start throwing their weight around who can we bring in to match their strength? Perk can do it but what if he gets a few early fouls and cant play? I say BBD is a very, very important piece to this team. He may not see as much action, in fact, he probably wont but he is still very valuable to this team. Bring him back, get it done, sign Starbury and the team is complete. We know what we have and begin the dethroning of the Lakers.
I like BBD on this team and wouldn't mind him being signed up long-term to a contract starting around $3 million.
