This really isn't a big deal.  As many of you said, he's not that good.  Moreover, he's just another mediocre backup wing added to the Magic.  With Carter playing big minutes at the 2, Lewis likely to get some play at the 3, and with Pietrus and Reddick already around, it's not like Barnes really does a lot to raise their talent level.

Yes. Orlando has surprised me this summer with how many signings they have made. I'd personally rather have Turkoglu than a cornucopia of average players, but that's their journey...

That was my first thought too.  I thought Orlando already had a solid ten man rotation.  I guess this allows their bench to go big or small, as Barnes can maybe play some 4.  And some of their wings are injury prone too, so having a fifth guy might not be bad for them.

I don't get the love for Barnes though.  He's decent but nothing close to Daniels.

This summer is fun, watching the top 6 or 7 teams sign every decent free agent.  This season is going to be great, not just for C's fans, but as an NBA fan.  Especially if Odom leaves L.A. for Miami and the Heat land Boozer too.

Funniest post of the year candidate.

Barnes fit as a backup PF in their system, but does nothing to help them be anything but a jumpshooting team.  And he doesn't help them deal with KG.

I know.  It's like if you have a $100 microwave and someone gives you another comparable $100 microwave for Christmas.  It's not really any better than the first microwave and it's not like you're going to use two microwaves.  So it really only becomes useful if the other microwave breaks down or you want to sell the microwave on E-Bay.  But who is going to pay full price for a $100 microwave on E-Bay when you could just go buy one at Sears?

So I don't get all the fuss.  All he's going to do is either ride the bench or eat into Pietrus or Reddick's minutes, which probably doesn't make them any better or any worse.

He's actually getting paid less than what we are rumoured to have offerred Daniels. I do however like Daniels as a better fit. Doesn't spread the floor bad defends and sees the floor a little better.

I think we're naturally going to worry about things we don't see. Trust in Ainge people. Let's wait till summer camp.

No state taxes.

Are you being sarcastic?  Barnes is a decent 10-12th man on most teams, but can only really be counted on more than that in certain systems.  He could potentially fit into Orlando's system as a PF backing up Lewis, but if they are going to put him on the wing, he will be nothing special.  I wouldn't be surprised if he is stuck behind Redick in the rotation.

I think he'll be ahead of Redick, just because he's a longer defender.

Still Orlando has improved their depth, and they were a pretty deep team to begin with. Only at PG do they not have a very capable backup.

Reddick has a chance to be the starting SG, like when Lee was injured.

Good point.  Which makes Barnes the 4th wing.  Yeah, he is a decent pickup as a 4th wing, but that is simply not a big impact position, and was not filling a big need.

To me, the only Magic moves that were at all important this offseason were getting Carter (who is a major upgrade over Turkey glue IMO, based on their needs), and then keeping Gortat, to maintain their quality depth.  Everything else is just extra.

If they add a good drive and shooter (which Carter could do), then I would be more worried.  If Howard becomes a consistent back to basket 20+ scorer (instead of a 20+ toss and dunk scorer) I would be more worried.  Both would transform the Magic offense to one that would be a lot harder to defend.

Why wouldn't they play Vince at the 2 and use Pietrus or Rashard at the 3?
