it is the summer of riches for the NBA -- the rich keep getting richer.

At this rate, the Celtics will sign Chris Paul to back up Rondo.
sometimes you have to bite your lip, exhale and move on.  So, I have.

I'll be sure to be nowhere near Celticsblog if this guy even knocks down 1 3 pointer in the playoffs against us.

The guy is OK.

Vince Carter for Hedo Turkoglu
Matt Barnes for Courtney Lee
Brandon Bass for Tony Battie

They got Ryan Anderson as a different positional backup replacing Raefer Alston (who for some reason is completely minimized.

Matt Barnes isn't that good, people overrate him because he played in a offense friendly system at Golden State, and played with Nash in Phoenix.  His 1st four years he wasn't anything special, nor is he.  I'll take Daniels as long as he stays healthy.

how shocking that he went to a warm weather city over Bos and CLev  8)

no chance we could have signed him for anything near value. He goes where it's warm, as he promised.

Still there will be a lot of weeping and gnashing of the teeth over it.

My twin said exactly the same thing right now. Great minds I guess. At that point they'd have to cancel the season, hold a draft with players from the bottom teams, give dibs to the contenders and just skip straight to the playoffs.

Your point is well taken but having said that, he's still going to yet another offense-friendly system in Orlando where he'll be able to camp out on the perimeter and take open 3s so its still a good pickup for Orlando.

just as there will be threads in the playoffs saying "why didn't we sign Matt Barnes!?"- I guess this thread is an opportunity for you guys to bash the people who wanted him here.

I wanted Barnes and I have no guilt in saying that.  He's a solid player and would have fit our system nicely, but at this point this has been argued and talked about to a point of tirelessness.  The fact is that he doesn't make or break our season and he probably won't for Orlando either.  I have no illusion that he was a necessary piece or that we needed only him to be successful.  But he would have fit here well, and people's desires for players is not a ridiculous thing.  Sure, there will be some overreaction if he hurts us in the playoffs, but no more overreaction than the people who choose to demerit him before he's done anything in Orlando.

And we'll never know what he would have done here in Boston either unfortunately.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I think a lot of people just got sick of all the Barnes talk when he never really was an option. Unless the C's were willing to dip into their MLE for him we couldn't pay his "cold weather" premium.

He's actually getting paid less than what we are rumoured to have offerred Daniels. I do however like Daniels as a better fit. Doesn't spread the floor bad defends and sees the floor a little better.

I think we're naturally going to worry about things we don't see. Trust in Ainge people. Let's wait till summer camp.

which he wouldn't have done with us, as we are a cold weather city, and he's been very clear on that.
