Absolutely ... but the market lacked better options. Just have to take the risk, and hope he's healthy when it counts.

Had he not missed so many games, Larry *might* have picked up his option (probably not, but Larry's done some weird things before).  At the very least, he wouldn't likely be a LLE-level free agent if he had been more durable. 

His 'duribility' is the reason the Celtics should look into another SF.

I firmly believe we need another wing. S&T for Warrick, or Udoka at the miminum.

Why would someone like Udoka sign here, though?  If Daniels IS healthy, any one we sign is likely going to be the 5th wing, maybe 6th depending on how they use Scal.  If Daniels DOESN'T get hurt, there aren't a lot of minutes to be had, which is going to hamper Udoka (or whatever FA we target) ability to get a decent contract in the future. 

Someone like Bowen makes more sense in that regard, they've already gotten paid and don't have any more big contracts in their future.

As to a trade...   I'm all for unloading TA for whatever we can get (hell, I'd trade Tony Allen for Julio Lugo if the NBA and MLB would allow it), but we're going to need Scal and I hate giving up on Giddens/Walker before we see them in camp.  Besides, those expiring contracts might be nice to have around come February.  Make a trade now for someone who you hope you don't need, or hold onto those assets for the inevitable fire sales?

Can't argue with that, unless they're convinced that either Giddens or Walker will step up (and I don't think they are).  I'm more concerned about them adding another body up front, though.  Scal's still around, too, I'd rather he get his minutes at the 4 but he can spell Pierce a bit, too.  If they bring back Starbury or sign Ty Lue, you still have Eddie House backing up Jesus at the 2 and Scal at the 3 for those nights when Daniels is out.

So, yeah, sign another wing if you can at the minimum - but I think the first priority is sorting out the 4th-big man and the second priority is figuring out who's playing behind Rondo. 

I think a 4th big (Davis or Diogu) and a backup PG (they have never seemed to like House as the main one) are on their lists.

Milwaukee will not pick up Bowen's option, which expires August 1, and right now they're still trying to trade him. So I think he could be a cheap, but very effective help in the 10-15 minutes he would get. I'm pretty sure Danny is targeting him. I also think we wouldn't need a backup PG in this case, and could use House/Hudson/Daniels. I'm talking about:

SF PP/Bowen
SG Ray/Daniels/Giddens
PG Rondo/House/Hudson

If Bowen is out, use Daniels at 2/3 and House at 1/2.

If Daniels is out, use Bowen at 2/3 and House at 1/2.

If House is out, use Daniels at 1/2 and Bowen at 2/3.

I like your options a lot, maybe sending TA with cash for Bowen gets it done.

Why would you trade for Bowen when they're not picking up his option?  He'll be a free agent in a couple days.  Sounds now like he's not going back to SA, he's going to want to play for a legit contender.  Let them release him and sign him for the vet min (no one's going to offer him more than that), you'll pay basically $2M w/ the luxury tax versus $8M if you trade for him and pay him at his current contract.

If someone else swoops in to sign him - not that big a loss, not enough of a risk to pay an extra $6M.

See that's why i said a guy like Bowen would be a smart idea to sign in the first place.  I still think defense is the most important thing off the bench, plus the dude can hit a 3 if needed.  PLUS he can guard Eddie's man if needed.  I wouldn't worry about scoring as much, and if we NEED to score, Daniels shouldn't be in the game anyway.  The starters and House and Rasheed should be in.  So if Daniels wasn't gonna sign we'd have some free minutes to trade TA and whoever else for a backup PG, instead of asking 2 shooting guards to share the load.  Bowen would be a nicer compliment off the bench along with House and Rasheed, along with a guy like Marbury who can keep the ball moving.

Nope.  This is the route i wanted to go pre-Daniels.
I'd only like Marbury in the game for 5-10min or so.  That leaves about 20min each for the other 3 guys, and then another 5-10min for a PF.
