I think Walker can develop into a good 10-15 minute guy....if he has any future with the Celtics he should be able to fill that role.

I hope Walker or Giddens are good enough to step into a role on this team. Otherwise, they need to go, and were wasted gambles.

With wings you pretty much know what you've got within 2 years. PGs and Cs need more time to develop.

Even then, these guys are a little undersized at the 3, yet could make up for it with athleticism and energy.

If they aren't good enough, we just need 1 body that is for sure able. Heck, what if pierce goes down with an injury for 20 games?

Oh and Tanguay and his gut aren't a reliable source of information.

I love when Sports Tonight talks trash about players and says they can't do anything, and that they suck becuase they were on the bench during the playoffs... Doc doesn't play rookies.

It's getting down to the point where Scal, Tony, Billy, and JR are better options than whats left for SF FA's at the vet min.

I think we will know if JR or Billy are ready within 5-10 games.  It'll be easy to tell, if Scal is playing backup SF in front of them, there as good as gone.

Either JR or Billy wins that job, or we're gonna see the Scal at SF showcase tour....

Walker, Giddens, Pruitt all have one more year experience.  However that experience was mostly riding the pine because, even though the Celts were desperate for fill-ins from injuries, they couldn't be depended on.  I don't see a high probability that any of them will be able to step in and contribute sufficiently.  They all need more NBA experience and basketball IQ that can only be gained by playing, and I don't think there will be room for that on this years incarnation of the Celtics.  They want to win it all, development isn't even on the Celtics wavelength this year.

But hey, that would be great if they did.  I would still prefer them to sign someone or make a trade to fill out the roster.

Can someone give a Re-cap of what this crazy Tanguay was saying tonight about the Backup 3 spot?

Seams like Rodney Carney is a better option in all ways compared to Tony/JR/Billy.

Taller, just as athletic, can shoot, has a clue on both ends of the court. Am a i wrong? Have injuries derailed his career?

I think what changed, was Phoenix decided that they wanted him back, and stepped forward with an offer.  Before that I think Phoenix was rather blaze e in pursuing Hill.

As to Walker & Giddens, Doc has said all along that they are competing for one spot.   They keep the best of the two, and see if he is good enough to play.  We used to have TA coming in to spell Pierce some.  Surely Walker or Giddens can play more intelligently than TA.   And maybe thats all you need.  This year Doc may have the luxury of always having two allstar level players playing at any time.  So that the second unit, does not require much from the Pierce backup.  Just intelligent play, and good defense.  (Giddens or Walker could fit the bill.)  And come the start of the playoffs you may have a kid Doc will trust.

or...you have 2 expiring contracts in scal and tony to find an experienced vet that doc will trust over a guy that needs to be mentored

I'm starting to question Gary's gut but, if this is true it's the best move for all concerned.  Let's see what we got in Walker and Giddens.  I have to laugh when I read so much angst for backup wing on a team with so much talent.

At this moment in time you can't trade Scal. He's not expendable until we solidify our front court. Even if we retain Baby, we're better off keeping Scal around (unless a good deal comes along) until we get one more big body.
