Davis is a skilled (good shot, smart, quick feet, good handle), but flawed (short, overweight) backup power forward. I'm surprised we have heard so many teams linked to him. And I'm really surprised at the dollar amounts being thrown around (5-6 per year). I think its all steam and speculation.

If I am a rival GM, I'd rather get a starter at the 4: Odom, Millsap, Lee, Varajao

Or go get one of these reserves:
M Williams
A McDyess (at lease we've hear he is higher on the totem pole)
Z Pachulia
D Gooden
C Frye
C Wilcox
B Bass
H Warrick

(i'm sure there are others... but I haven't seen much of Gray, Hollins, May, etc.)

Also...
If someone gave Davis a 3 mil/year contract he'd probably continue to be hungry to elevate his status in the league. But if someone overpays him, he might rest on his laurels and get in worse shape (especially if on a mediocre team).

Having said all of this, I really think he'll be back in Boston at a starting figure of 3 mil by the end of the month.

Davis scored 16ppg in the playoffs. That's why there's interest in him.

Pretty much for the same reasons that most people around here want him to re-sign.

Is there a lot of interest?  Dallas and Orlando has both publicly passed, and San Antonio went in another direction.  I can't think of too many teams publicly linked to BBD, other than maybe New Orleans.

If anything, I'd say that Baby hasn't gotten much interest at all, at least not yet.

From what I can tell, there's significantly less interest than Baby was hoping for. And the fans don't want him anywhere else. If you read the comments from most rumor articles, the fans rage and storm at the idea of signing him.

I don't mind Davis but I'm not a big supporter, more of a "I'd never give a long term contract to someone who's not in shape after playing a full season" guy. But there's no way I'd ever take players like Frye or Gooden over Davis, and I don't know that I'd take Warrick or Wilcox. No way on Sean May either.

I think he's hoping Cedric Maxwell gets appointed GM of a team with $10M in cap space.

Yeah, I think he was banking on him making a huge splash in free agency.

Reminds me of Eric Dickerson when he was with the Rams.  He wanted the money.  After he retired, Jim Brown told him he would have made more money if he would have stayed pat.  Dickerson agreed.

Brian scalabrine nods his head sagely.

Nothing gets you over payed like a breakout playoff performance!

Yeah...when will GMs learn. 1 or 2 playoff series against only 1 or 2 teams does not paint the whole picture.

What about only the 5 and a half boards per game? Anyway, I hope we keep him. And what buzz we are hearing shouldn't amount to much with 7-8 bigs clearly ahead of him still in the FA market.

Chris Andersen (6 Pts/6 Rebs) signed for 5 years/$26M.  Wow.  I would think BBD likes the looks of that.  Of course Denver has more flexibility to sign their own player than someone else has to sign BBD.  Birdman is quite a different player but it seems as though BBD would have comparable value.

I would have thought a couple of years at $3 would be pretty good for BBD but now I am not so sure he won't get more.

A lot of teams kicked the tires on Davis as a possible fall back option.
