Welcome back to... *FWOOSH!* - the CelticsBlog Fantasy Draft Recap!
TOM: So Day 2 had a ton of action - starting off strong and never really slowing down. What are your initial thoughts, Steve?
STEVE: The second round began with a bang, as the remaining players we had initially projected as Round 1 picks flew off the board, followed by tons of great value picks throughout the entire round. I thought the most interesting part was the late run on big men at the end, and all the last-minute trades this precipitated. Watching half the GMs in the league try to claw their way back into the second round was like watching a pack of fat kids trying to break into an all-you-can-eat candy buffet. Assuming those kids only wanted candy that could rebound and play solid defense.
TOM: ...That's the stupidest thing you've ever said, Steve.
STEVE: I was also intrigued by the momentary reunion of Stephen Jackson and Ron Artest in Washington, which lasted just long enough for David Stern's head to explode. Thankfully, after a minute or two, the Boxers realized they had doomed all life in the greater DC area and immediately traded Artest to the Suns. In exchange they received a later pick they turned into Andris Biedrins, as well as a full-time anger management therapist to join Jackson's entourage. The over/under for "felonies committed by Washington players" immediately dropped back down to 2.5.
TOM: It's a shame about Stern, though. He'll be missed. Any other thoughts?
STEVE: While some GMs are simply drafting the best available players, we're clearly starting to see a master plan emerge for some teams. The Spurs, with Rose and Mayo, appear to be building for the future, and will be a force to be reckoned with in a couple of years. The Jazz, on the other hand, with Billups and Nowitski, are clearly banking on making a run within the next year or two. Toronto, with Garnett and Arenas, seems determined to shatter the single-season record for "most games missed due to injury". Though you have to like their chances if they stay healthy.
TOM: True enough. They may be one of the early favorites if they can cross that hurdle. Thanks for the time, Steve.
STEVE: Anytime, Tom.
