Per TeleMadrid it looks like Ricky Rubio has signed on to play for Real madrid for the next two years.

Sorry to report that StarOrien.
I don't think it hurts Indiana *that* much. They're going for a "team of future" look, and I think Rubio will really help them down the line. Getting a bit of seasoning will only help his game, and when he comes over, he'll still be on a rookie deal.
True but how does it help their team this year when he won't be in the NBA this year? This isn't a keeper league and since he won't be in the NBA doesn't that basically void him from their roster? It's true it doesn't hurt that much to a Future team but how can we judge how good a foreign player will be in the NBA if he never plays here. Juan Carlos Navarro and a bunch of other foreign STARS, I mean big stars overseas, never became more than role players in the NBA or worse. It's as hit or miss as it is with college players, sometimes worse.
Well, there are two criteria when we judge these teams: "win now" or "team of the future". Obviously, since Rubio isn't playing this year, he's useless to a "win now" team. To a future-oriented team, though, holding the draft rights to Rubio goes into the voting, I would imagine.
You're correct that this isn't a "keeper league", to the extent we'll start over again next year. However, GMs are supposed to be putting these teams together like they would an actual team, with the idea that the NBA won't spontaneously end after this season. Toward that end, it sometimes makes sense to draft guys on potential, and other times to draft guys who won't even play this year.
It's of course tough to judge how good Rubio will be, but no tougher in my mind than any of the other rookies.
