I seem to recall a rapper that recently was trying out for the NBA and invited to their camp. So I guess you do... What do you care? If you don't like the music don't listen. He doesn't come into your backyard and tell you to stop playing pickup ball. If we were only allowed to do things we excelled at we'd all be pretty bored.

Dude, Master P tries out for the Raptors every season. He once even got invited to join the Summer League squad.

  .....And the difference between the depth of the prototype rapper's lyrics and Artest's?  About 20 times the incoherent yelling profanity.  By this genre's standards, (term used very loosely) Artest's work is outstanding. 

Any moment Artest opens his mouth makes me glad we don't have Ron Artest. 

More like gong show material than Cowell's histrionics.

Another interesting tidbit:

Ron Artest who previously wore number 96 for the Houston Rockets has chosen to wear number #37 for the Lakers. Artest told Lakers Nation his reasoning:

I was trying to figure out a number, I was talking to my wife and kids. I was on my twitter, MySpace, and Facebook and asking everybody to help me pick a number. On my MySpace, somebody named Trish T he Dish came up with the #37 and said that Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” was 37 weeks at number one of all time. 23 I was going to choose, it was available, it’s a great number but, I thought (with) that 37 and “Thriller”, I can make that a new great number. I think more kids should start getting the #37 for a great human being, since Michael loved all people. I think I’m representing greatness in wearing #37.
