According to Chris Broussard on ESPN, Kidd was offered a 3 year deal at $9 million per year when Mark Cuban flew into NY last night.  Looks like he's gonna stay in Dallas cause I don't think anyone else will come close to offering that to him.

dallas must really enjoy being a middle of the pack western conference playoff team.

Kidd would be crazy not to accept $27 million from Dallas!

They better have other moves in mind then. Kidd will be a Maverick for sure if this is legit.

Holy schnikes!!

when i first read the post topic i missed the per year and thought it was 3yr/$9M and thought "$3M/yr.... that's a little low but maybe he likes being in Dallas, whatever."

but now i see $9M/yr and am even more shocked.

from Dallas' viewpoint maybe they see him having 2 years left in the tank, they'll overpay a bit to keep him (what's the other options? Sessions @ MLE? Iverson? Andre Miller at MLE?), and he'll be big expiring contract in the final year of his deal when he's useless....

i dont' agree, but I can sort of see the logic.

No one is going to touch that with a 10 ft pole. Kidd is a Maverick like Palin and McCain.

Indeed!

But they're a lesson to us all that just because you assemble good talent and have a lot of money doesn't mean that you're going to turn into a dynasty (or even win 1 championship).

Cuban has never been afraid to open up his wallet.  Well, now that I think about it Andre Miller at the MLE doesn't sound that bad.  At least I would explore that before throwing the bank at Kidd.  And why $9 mill per year?  I can't imagine anyone was gonna offer him that much more than the MLE if he did get another offer.  Seems like they kinda outbid themselves a little bit.

I am still convinced if they had hired a better coach than Avery they'd have gotten at least one title out of those two awesome years Dirk put together.

Yeah, I'm just surprised he's making such a rash move so soon.  Andre Miller isn't that big of a downgrade at PG is he?  Supposedly he is looking for only the MLE.  He's three years younger than Kidd but still a veteran and leader.  He averaged 16.3 pts, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rbds, and 1.3 steals last year.

He seems like he'd be a good fit, and they will be paying a 39 year old Kidd $9 mill in three years.

Any chance Portland gets in on this type of a deal?

I think Kidd would be a great fit on that Blazers squad.

Bill Simmons is going to flip
How so? What did Bill Simmons want to happen with Kidd this summer?
