Probably not happening, one of the anchors on sports center said that if Yao is out for a while there first move will be to lock up Artest. He's not going anywhere

I disagree, I think with Yao out, and if it's as bad as some people speculate (like career ending) Houston just may start to rebuild.  Artest was a puzzle piece to go after a championship to complement a healthy Yao and TMac.  Houston's championship dreams are over, they have no need for Artest now.  He's a great puzzle piece, but not a guy you want to build around.

Imagine if we somehow signed Sheed AND Artest?

We'd have a new Big 3 -

The Crazy 3 - Artest, Sheed, KG

Don't forget Marbury!!

The Fearsome Foursome?

The Furious 4.

Is it too late to bring Isaiah Rider out of retirement too to add to that team?

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

If Ron Artest comes to Boston, that would be so sweet.  Maybe I'll sell one of you my autographed one-of-a-kind Ron Artest autographed t-shirt from his SLAM cover.  Yes I own this.  8)

The only problem, of course, is that if we spend the whole MLE on him, how do we address our gaping hole in the middle behind Perk?  Maybe if we can get Oberto at the LLE or minimum, or someone like Joe Smith or Drew Gooden, but I worry if we spend the MLE on a 2/3 guy, rather than a 4/5 guy, we're going to have a lot of trouble addressing a backup for Perk.

Now granted you could say the same thing about the 2/3 spot; however, at least we have guys like Bill Walker who could conceivably be a decent backup.  There's absolutely no one behind Perk.

Ok if Houston goes in to re-building mode (or at least gives up on next season) how about we do a sign and trade for Artest (sending Tony and Scal), then we still have the full mid level to go after a big like Sheed or McDyess.  That could work right?

i like this idea...only thing is, why would they take on our expiring contracts when they can just have the money free right now? that is, unless they plan to use the contracts of tony, scal, etc. to go after a player on another team via trade...not sure, but it is an interesting idea though, no doubt.

I'd give him the MLE over 5 years and a player opt out after 3. He'd be sick to have banging at the 2, 3, 4 off the bench. Heck he's good enough to possibly push Ray to the bench, sliding Pierce to the 2.

Artest is a head case, but in a good competative way. He's a guy you want to battle alongside, not against.

From there I would take a scrub to play the backup 5. Artest is that good.
Scrub?  No thanks.  I've had enough of that experiment.  Can you say Mikki "don't come around here no" Moore?

The team needs better than a scrub backing up Perk.  Someone who's actually tall enough to play the position.  BBD and Powe did the best the could but they're short for PFs, nevermind playing Center.

I wouldn't throw the MLE at Artest without addressing the back bigman issue.  If Danny can get a GOOD backup big and still have the MLE left, well hallelujah throw the MLE to Artest.

Here are some recent quotes from Artest:

Quote
"You take everything into consideration," Artest said Tuesday, two days after the Rockets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers. "It's hard to get into that right now, on what I'm thinking, as far as somebody making an offer I can't refuse.
The 29-year-old Artest said he can't change who he is, but felt like he proved to skeptics that he could control his personality and be a valuable player. He says he's matured and rediscovered his love for the game.
"I'm not out there trying to fool anybody," Artest said. "But I think, every team I've played on since I was young, I've always been a leader, always been an asset. I'm trying to get that feel back, when I was playing and it wasn't about money.
"Ever since I started making a lot of money playing basketball, that's when things went wrong, and I kind of had to find myself," he said. "I've been working on that part even more than my game, the mental part of it even more than my jumper and now it's balancing out. As I continue to get better, the leadership will get better and then my game will rise right with it."

Now you could just dismiss that all as free agent talk.  He's obviously trying to sell himself, but he also says some really interesting things.  It doesn't sound like he is going to base his decision on money, and in fact, he seems to imply that he wants in his heart to play with another goal in mind.

If you are Artest and Danny approaches you on July 1st and says, "Ron, we'll give you the full MLE over 4 to 5 years.  We'll guarentee you the first spot of the bench and 33 minutes a game playing besides the likes of Garnett, Pierce, Allen, and Rondo.  You'll also play during the key stretches and deciding moments of the games.  After next year when Ray is gone, we'll give you the starting spot at the 2.  We want you and need you to win a championship, the only thing you have left to do in your career that could silence any remaining negative impression that people might have of you."

What do you think Ron would say?  Is that a realistically appetizing offer or could he really make better off somewhere else?

Did Danny replace Doc as coach?

Well of course the agent will say Artest is still interested in Houston. They can pay the most. Truth is the Rockets offered Brooks and Battier for Rubio, so I'm not sure if they aren't going to go the rebuilding route.

That said, it looks like Artest is not on Ainge's radar. I just think he'd be a great and would extend our championship window.

Wow, and to think I was happy that I saw someone respond to my post and in the end it was  just a sarcastic comment that didn't actually attempt to analyze what I was asking.  Thanks for your contribution. ::)

No, Danny didn't replace Doc as coach, but do you think that Danny and Doc's ideas and intentions would vastly differ if they were to acquire Artest?  I'm pretty sure it's Doc's job to work with what Danny gives him.  Would you have felt better if I said "If you are Artest and Danny and Doc..." etc.?

And how about you actually answer one of my questions, like do you think Artest's words indicate that he would be willing to take a lesser contract to sign with a contender?

I'd love to hear an actual response to what I wrote...

Any news on Artest suitors? I feel that Danny might be wasting his time on Sheed and sleeping on Artest. Sheed is just entertaining Boston's overtures to increase his price tag. He doesn't want to come here. I think the C's should be swooping in on Artest. Show him the love. With an emotional guy like Artest, I think the midnight recruiting would have helped. Artest is a better fit as a 6th man imo as well.
