Get Artest DANNY! I have wanted this guy since he was in INDY.I was told I was crazy for wanting him but looks like crazy has come to my side of the table now. He is the perfect guy for us D minded and has enough offence to keep guys honest. Danny make the call. IN FACT hop on a plane right now and go to Artest house with a Green 96 Celtics Jersey and bring the #17 trophey with you and say to MR.ARTEST want one of these or how about 2 or 3 of them.

Boooo.  Artest is a dirty player, plus he was terrible in the playoffs.

If there is 1 player that we should throw the full MLE at it's Ron Artest.  He can play the 2 or 3 and is the defensive minded hard nose player we need to throw at the likes of Lebron and Kobe.  If we can't get Artest then we should try and get either Anthony Parker, Dahntay Jones, or Matt Barnes as a cheaper backup 2/3 guard combo.  We want the best defender we can get as a combo guard to take the pressure off of Pierce.  We should keep Marbury as a backup point and not spend much money or time trying to get another PG.  Marbury knows the system and is willing to come back and play for us.  If we don't get Artest then we should spend the money on a backup for Perk, but I would rather give Artest the full MLE then Sheed.

I would rather see this core rotation..

PG - Rondo/Marbury
SG - Allen/House/Pierce
SF - Pierce/Artest/Walker
PF - KG/Andersen/Baby/Powe
C - Perk/Andersen

Than this one...

PG - Rondo/Marbury
SG - Allen/House
SF - Pierce/Jones/Walker
PF - KG/Sheed/Baby/Powe
C - Perk/Sheed

Realistically I see our bench looking like this, which is not ideal or great other than the addition of Andersen.

PG - Marbury
SG - T. Allen
SG - Giddens
SG - House
SG/SF - Dahntay Jones
SF - Walker
PF - Baby
PF - Scal
PF - Powe
PF/C - Andersen

But I think you're not taking into account that average big men usually cost more than average swingmen.  There's probably a much better chance we get a decent swingman like Hill or Barnes at the LLE than there is of us getting a decent big man.  Grant Hill made made just under 2 million last year, so the LLE is right on par for him.  Matt Barnes made 800 K, so the LLE would more than double his salary.  And while Birdman also only made 800K, after putting up 6, 6, and 2.5, he's in line for pay raise probably larger than the LLE.

So while I like Artest better than Wallace, I'm not as sure I like Artest and what would more likely be Oberto over Wallace and someone like Grant Hill.

me too...but how is it that you figure we can get andersen AND artest? neither one is going to take just half of the MLE, and neither will settle for the LLE.

It makes much more financial sense to go after a big man with our MLE as there are fewer decent bigs available than any other positions. i would love to have artest here too, but unless we can spring some sort of a trade with tony and scal's contract for a big man, i don't see this happening unfortunately. rasheed, grant hill, and dahntay jones would sure up three uncertain bench positions and put us as probably the most likely team to take it all in 2010 just by team depth alone.

i will dream with the rest of celtics nation though, as it is fun to consider the possibilities  ;D

TP for the plan of action.

In a related note, this thread has been read over 900 times and many people think this is a great idea, but I just checked and the OP hasn't even gotten one TP for the idea.  :(

I would still go with crazy.  He shot Houston out of the series with LA and his defense is overrated.

The Rockets took LA to 7 games, much better than any other team and they were playing without their two "superstars" for the majority of the series. Artest was forced into the position of go to guy. In Boston we have so much firepower he would not be forced to overdue it.

I completely agree.  The point I was trying to make was that I would rather have Artest over Sheed.  But, I would be ecstatic still if we got Sheed, Hill, and Jones as well.  There's another thread about talking about throwing the full MLE at Varejo.  I just don't understand what people are thinking with that??  In my opinion, these are the only UFA's realistically we should even consider giving the full MLE too.

1) Artest
2) Sheed
3) Marion

Here are some recent quotes from Artest:

Quote
"You take everything into consideration," Artest said Tuesday, two days after the Rockets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers. "It's hard to get into that right now, on what I'm thinking, as far as somebody making an offer I can't refuse.
The 29-year-old Artest said he can't change who he is, but felt like he proved to skeptics that he could control his personality and be a valuable player. He says he's matured and rediscovered his love for the game.
"I'm not out there trying to fool anybody," Artest said. "But I think, every team I've played on since I was young, I've always been a leader, always been an asset. I'm trying to get that feel back, when I was playing and it wasn't about money.
"Ever since I started making a lot of money playing basketball, that's when things went wrong, and I kind of had to find myself," he said. "I've been working on that part even more than my game, the mental part of it even more than my jumper and now it's balancing out. As I continue to get better, the leadership will get better and then my game will rise right with it."

Now you could just dismiss that all as free agent talk.  He's obviously trying to sell himself, but he also says some really interesting things.  It doesn't sound like he is going to base his decision on money, and in fact, he seems to imply that he wants in his heart to play with another goal in mind.

If you are Artest and Danny approaches you on July 1st and says, "Ron, we'll give you the full MLE over 4 to 5 years.  We'll guarentee you the first spot of the bench and 33 minutes a game playing besides the likes of Garnett, Pierce, Allen, and Rondo.  You'll also play during the key stretches and deciding moments of the games.  After next year when Ray is gone, we'll give you the starting spot at the 2.  We want you and need you to win a championship, the only thing you have left to do in your career that could silence any remaining negative impression that people might have of you."

What do you think Ron would say?  Is that a realistically appetizing offer or could he really make better off somewhere else?

Probably not happening, one of the anchors on sports center said that if Yao is out for a while there first move will be to lock up Artest. He's not going anywhere

But if they all say no.... who do you target and at what price? Artest is most likely staying in Houston. Sheed and Marion are outside shots for us.... (but i think we at least have a shot.)
