We sign Rasheed to the full MLE.  I know it is a lot to only fill one hole, but he is a good player and the best option out there to back up the bigs.

Then, we start the season having Giddens/Walker (I know, I know) backing up PP and Ray.  At about the trade deadline, we can move some of our contracts and hopefully bring in a young player to back up PP (and hopefully he can play the 2, although I think Eddie does a decent job in that role minues his size).

Anyway, thoughts on the approach?

I have a feeling that someone like New York will overpay Gortat and offer him the full MLE.  I think in order for us to fill all of our holes we need to split the MLE.   We have too many holes to fill to give it all to one guy. 

I don't agree with that!

The Celtics could offer the full or close to the full MLE to a big like Rasheed Wallace or Zaza Pachulia or Drew Gooden. They could then offer the LLE to some mid level SFs like Grant Hill or Matt Barnes or Ime Udoka. The celtics could then land a vet min type player like Flip Murray to back up Rondo. They resign Big Baby and Powe. And then the have Tony,Scal, Walker and Giddens to package for a trade for someone like a Earl Watson or Marcus Camby or Andres Nocioni or Corey Maggette. Players with something to offer but who's team might be looking to dump for whatever reason for expiring contracts and youngsters.

Thank you, I agree completely.  Filling in with guys like Zaza just because they are affordable is the reason some teams never win.  Getting another really good player in Sheed is more important and getting two OK players.  We gave Posey a good deal and that seemed to work.  We didn't have the depth, but the guys we were bringing in were good (remember signing PJ for cheap?)  I think we get Sheed and Hill is still an option since he knows he has a great chance at a ring (knock on wood).

Agree with the first part not the start the season having Giddens/Walker as back up part. We could probably sign Udoka, Barnes, Jones or Hill to the vet min, maybe even more than one. At the deadline I'd like to see Noccioni, or Maggette if Golden State is floundering.

Good point.  That would work.  I wouldnt mind Rasheed.  But we need to make sure to get Idoku or Parker  Both of these guys would work well in our system. Pierce needs rest and we should try to limit his minutes to 30 a game. 

I wouldnt mind this line up


Garnett/ Baby/ Powe/Scals
Pierce/ Idoku or Parker/ Walker
Allen/ Tony Allen/ Giddens
Rondo/ House/ Hudson
Perkins/ Rasheed


Then at the trade deadline we can trade Tony Allen, Scals, for a solid shooting guard.  Maybe even James Posey himself..lol

I think that makes the most sense.  And now that the word is out that Sheed won't come, I think you can sub Gortat in and have a very similar looking team slightly more focused on D, and slightly less on O.  I still think the whole thing makes sense.  Grant Hill would also most likely KILL to come into a situation like this, and he's the smart defender backing up the 3/4 that we've been looking for.  Not to mention, I don't know how, and I don't know if you saw last year, but the guy can still score a little two.  Upstanding player with accomplishments like Hill, I would bet he would have no problem coming here for a chance at a ring.
