Eh Sheed and McDyess are going to be in such demand they can't go everywhere. I also don't see how moving up in the draft necessarily helps them. Rookies usually don't contribute, especially low picks.

It is a good move for the Cavs, they still shouldn't take on any long term salary though.

Supposedly there are a couple guys that could fall to the mid-teens that the Cavs feel could help them immediately this year.  Two players that come to mind are Earl Clark and Derozean

Any crummy contract would have to be pretty small or 1 year. Otherwise they'd be hurting their flexibility next year, it is already pretty tight. Especially if the MLE isn't used on 1 year deals.

True, but the Cavs can take on some money for post 2010.  They have virtually zero guaranteed contracts that currently extend past 2010.  I believe it is only Gibson, Delonte and Mo that are signed past 2010

Your team not being completely healthy is a weak excuse.  The Celtics had plenty of opportunities to win that series and lost game 7, at home, by 20.

Meanwhile, the Cavs played an Orlando team that shot 45% from 3, had Dwight Howard making 70% of his FTs and a Cleveland coach who wet himself and ran for the corner.  Orlando just flat out played better than the Cavs in that series, plain and simple.  The series exposed some of the Cavs weaknesses that no other team could expose and now those wekanesses are being addressed.  I recovered quickly from the Orlando series and predicted on this site that they would lose to the Lakers in 5 games.  Orlando got very hot in game 6 of the Boston series and carried that hot streak through the ECF.  What can you do?

In terms of on the court potential, this doesn't worry me at all. At best, it'll be a lateral move for the Cavs. Could backfire.

That being said, while the Cavs haven't figured out how to win an actual NBA title on the court, 2010 will be their 2nd straight NBA Media Championship, to go along with the 2009 title that everyone gave them back in February when KG went down and they were pummeling Memphis and Sacramento by 40 at home and playing air guitar on the sidelines. "Shaq to the Cavs" sounds great to sports morons like Stuart Scott, Michael Wilbon, Tony Kornheiser, etc.

Because of that, my worry is that as much as the media and officials catered to LeBron and the Cavs this past season, that could be increased exponentially with the attention/exposure surrounding Shaq's arrival. And because the players know that, you could also see some FA's take salary cuts in order to go to Cleveland. A front court of LeBron, Rasheed and Shaq would be tough. Hell, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Suns trade Steve Nash to the Cavs for a case of lukewarm Beast Light. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, because of the morons at ESPN, perception truly is reality in the NBA, and that may make this a great move for the Cavs.

Also, Steve Kerr is a complete joke. What a garbage GM. He has no business having a job. He didn't even get a first round pick or any prospects out of this. I highly doubt that was the best he could get in return for Shaq. I would be pretty ****ed if I was a Suns fan. Like someone said above, this reminds me a lot of the Gasol trade.

Witch is the reason I am starting to not like the NBA. With the nba it's turned into a marketing league where the guys they want to promote get calls that average guys don't get. They talked about changeing rules so BRONBRON can travel GIMMIE A BREAK. Be prepard for  Shaq bowling over defenders without gettting called for it. Really hard to cheer for a league that does this. My theory on why Cleveland didn't make any moves at the trading deadline was that Ferry wouldn't throw in any picks or prospects along with Wally's deal to make a trade happen, and most other GMs wouldn't make such a blatant salary dump deal.  Well, looks like he found one that would with Wallace's contract.

I defended the first Shaq trade for Phoenix, and I know Kerr's under a lot of pressure to blow up the team and shed salary, but there's no way he couldn't've done better than this.  It's another slap in the face for Suns fans.

Cleveland may be better, but don't forget how injury prone Shaq was the last year and a half with Miami.  Phoenix's training staff is maybe the best in the league for older players, and they still sat him for back-to-backs most of the year.  He's due for a big dropoff and it wouldn't surprise me if this was the year.  But anyone who says this didn't make Cleveland better is nuts.
