AV is going to get more than the MLE from the Cavs so I wouldn't worry about him.

McDyess, Gortat, Zaza, etc are who we'll have the ability to sign. Though I think Gortat/Zaza will go start for a team somewhere.

Doesn't this mean we need to re-sign BBD?  He and Perk are the only ones strong enough on the team to hold ground against Shaq and Howard.

Anyone who thinks this trade isn't a big deal for the Cavs is kidding themselves, or they just need som perspective.  First things first, this is only the beginning for the Cavs.  They are trying hard to move up in the draft tonight and looking to acquire either a big swingman or someone like Earl Clark.

They will also be looking to get sign or trade for a PF that can spread the floor (McDyess, Sheed, possibly CV but I doubt it).

Anyone who thinks this hurts Lebron is kidding themselves again.  First, look for Lebron to be playing some PF this year.  Getting him the ball in the pos with Shaq on the other block will be brutal for other teams.  Want to rotate your center over to help on Lebron, Shaq's getting an oop.  Want to rotate your center on a Lebron drive?  Shaq is getting an oop.  Lebron is an excellent passer and will be looking to set up Shaq frequently.

Like I said at the beginning of this, this is just the first move for the Cavs.  They are going to be very active this offseason and at the trade deadline since this is their last guaranteed year with LBJ (although I think he is staying put).  At worst, Shaq is a 20 million dollar expiring contract that the Cavs can move at the deadline.

I think it's a good move for the Cavs: they don't give up much in the way of value, they don't lose financial flexibility, and they bring in one of the true greats.  That said, we sit here and worry about Ray Allen at 34 years old and Ray Allen is a relatively normal sized human being in excellent shape.  Shaq is a freak of nature and has a body just waiting to fall apart.

Also, while he is an upgrade on Big Z, this pretty much destines the Cavs to be slow.  In the past, they'd sometimes mix it up at the 5 spot, and go with Varejo, and speed up the game.  That's going to be very hard to do now with Shaq and Big Z both demanding minutes at the 5.  Also, I don't think they're going to play them next to each other very often (it would be a defensive and spacing disaster), so I'm not sure the upgrade is as dramatic as it might seem on paper.

It's a good, but not great move for the Cavs.  I certainly wouldn't be designing rings for them anytime soon: I still think the C's are the better team.

Great trade for the Cavs, but they would've been better off if they had just trade Wally the first time.

Either way a big man rotation of Shaq, BigZ, Varejao, and Hickson is pretty good.

This move is obviously to matchup better with the Howard, and the Magic.

Well their front court is still big and slow.  I think Perk will be able to do a decent job on Shaq, just as he had done with Dwight.  But the Cavs are probably a little late making this trade, who knows they may have missed their shot by not making this trade 4 months ago.

If the Cavs moved Wally for Shaq they would be sitting with 34 million dollars in cap tied up with Shaq and Wallace right now.

Good move for the Cavs.

1) Gives them a true second option

2) Gives them someone that can push Howard away from the basket (that was the key for Perk and Davis)

3) While he might not pull alot of double teams, his man isn't going to get off him to stop Lebron drive or Shaq is going to get a lot of open dunks.

4) they gave up nobody.

5) Big Z is in the last year of his contract paying 11 million.  Big piece of trade bait.

They can add some FAs but they don't have much left to work with.

JJ Hickson is probably their only trade asset left. They can sign some quality FAs, but they'll refuse to commit too much because the plan of LeBron plus max FA is still paramount.
