The more I think about it, obviously Shaq is better than Wallace, but the Cavs are still horribly designed offensively. You have slow big men who can't shoot from the outside, except for the 45 yr old Z (yes I know Giddens is 24...hyperole ;) lol). They're going to be clogging the paint from Lebron on drives. None of them can match up against Rashard Lewis or Odom or KG. And all their guards are point guard sized.

Actually you're right. I feel a lot better now. Say goodbye to driving to the left block, Lebron. That's where Shaq's house is.

Unless you want to take it up with the big fella. I'm sure he'd understand.  :P
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

  • Thank you Eddie!
Makes sense for Phoenix because they get cap space for 2010, getting something for a failed experiment.  Seems like a panic trade on the Cavs end to keep Lebron happy there because Perk and Howard would have no problem guarding Shaq.

Interesting.  This does worry me, but if the Celtics have a good off-season (not sure what's going to happen right now) then I don't think we'll have to worry too much.

for pavlovic and ben wallace (plus a 2nd round pick). per espn. this obviously isn't the old shaq, but he was fairly effective in spurts this past season, and i think could be quite effective if he got around 20-24 mpg. plus, wallace and pavlovic didn't really give them much as it is.

Meh.  No Varejao please.  I'm a bigger fan of Joakim Noah....

The bigger question is what's next for the Suns? Is Amare staying now?

Minnesota has the contracts and draft picks to offer Phoenix a decent package: Love, expiring contracts (Cardinal and Madsen), and the #6. I wonder if the Wolves would do it, though.

OKC? They could offer the #3, Nick Collison, and Earl Watson's expiring deal, and sweeten by returning the future 1st Phoenix owes them next year (which is unprotected).

I would definitely do it if I was Minny. Stoudaemire and Big Al would be ungaurdable in the low post. Even if it didn't work out you would have 2 of the best low post players in the league as trade chips.

Yeah, and they'd still have the #5 to draft a guard like Harden, Curry, etc. Plus the expiring contracts they got from Washington earlier that could be traded later this season. They could dramatically reshape that roster into something quite dangerous.

I think this is going to free up Lebron's game even more. Mo Williams was a good acquisition, but Shaq will demand teams to watch him in the post, which gives Lebron more leeway.

I'm not worried about this at all, Perk can handle Shaq without any help. I heard a rumor that Charlie Villanuava( sp?) is willing to sign with Cle for the MLE, I would be more worried about that....
But isn't Villanueva a RFA?
He might want to sign with CLE, but MIL will have the last say on that...

most teams, but the Elite teams in the east have guys that can guard Shaq one on one. At this point in their careers Perk and Howard will have no trouble with Shaq

Well he has a qualifying offer , is that the same as being a RFA?

In terms of on the court potential, this doesn't worry me at all. At best, it'll be a lateral move for the Cavs. Could backfire.

That being said, while the Cavs haven't figured out how to win an actual NBA title on the court, 2010 will be their 2nd straight NBA Media Championship, to go along with the 2009 title that everyone gave them back in February when KG went down and they were pummeling Memphis and Sacramento by 40 at home and playing air guitar on the sidelines. "Shaq to the Cavs" sounds great to sports morons like Stuart Scott, Michael Wilbon, Tony Kornheiser, etc.

Because of that, my worry is that as much as the media and officials catered to LeBron and the Cavs this past season, that could be increased exponentially with the attention/exposure surrounding Shaq's arrival. And because the players know that, you could also see some FA's take salary cuts in order to go to Cleveland. A front court of LeBron, Rasheed and Shaq would be tough. Hell, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Suns trade Steve Nash to the Cavs for a case of lukewarm Beast Light. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, because of the morons at ESPN, perception truly is reality in the NBA, and that may make this a great move for the Cavs.

Also, Steve Kerr is a complete joke. What a garbage GM. He has no business having a job. He didn't even get a first round pick or any prospects out of this. I highly doubt that was the best he could get in return for Shaq. I would be pretty ****ed if I was a Suns fan. Like someone said above, this reminds me a lot of the Gasol trade.
