Yeah I wouldn't trade Perk for that pick.   We need Perk's defense and who knows how long it will take Thabeet to develop.  Maybe it did somehow involve BBD in a sign and trade and some other minor pieces while taking back a bad contract or 2 along with the pick.  Who knows maybe Ainge was still thinking of Rubio if he thought there would be a future trade with Rondo or even keeping both for a while.  Ainge likes to think outside the box so I wouldn't put it past him.

Thabeet is never going to be a great center in the NBA because all he can do is block shots. He would be great against many teams, but once we play the Magic again in the playoff, Howard would be able to push Thabeet all over the place. We need to keep Perk for his great defense and his bulk. KG and Thabeet would be the skinniest PF/C combination in the history of the NBA.

If Danny did a trade with Memphis that involved Perk for # 2 and something else, I would be deeply concerned.  And I don't think he would necessarily take Thabeet.  He could still take Rubio or Harden.  In the deal he'd have to get our backup players (more players involved on both sides) so that we could give the full MLE to a new starting center or slew of average bigs.

Giving up Perk to get Thabeet with another center as a stopgap seems weird to me, as in seriously not maximizing the window.  It's just a guess, but if the Celts traded Perk and got #2 pick I'll bet it's because he's in love with another player, either Harden or Rubio, and lately people on this blog have convinced me it would be Harden.

Celts would then have to sign a bunch of bigs or gamble on 1 really good one (Pach, Gort)

Don't see how trading Perk can be a good thing at all, at least not for next year's run.

Hell yeah I would. I love Perk but his ceiling is no where near where Griffin's is.

Perk fit so well with KG and creates the best defensive low post in the NBA.  That's what leads the Celtics to a title. 

Agreed.  Who cares how high Griffin's ceiling happens to be if he doesn't hit it for three years? 

And people need to stop fantasizing about Rondo, Griffin, and a 2010 FA turning into the next NBA dynasty.  The chances of that happening are about 1%.  Whereas if we keep Perk and the core together, our chances of winning a title or two over the next 2-3 years is quite good.

Perk probably has the best value contract in the whole NBA (outside of rookie contracts).  With today's economy and everyone trying to cut payroll, Perk is probably the most valuable player in the whole league with that contract (obviously an exaggeration, but you know what I'm saying...).  It would have to be a pretty special trade to trade Perk away, and I don't think anyone in this draft is worth Perk right now.

I don't think any of the starting 5 were involved.  I just can't see any scenerio where that was happening.  However, the lowballing theory does sound more realistic.  How must Memphis fans feels knowing the rest of the league sees their organization as suckers?

  Interesting that Memphis wouldn't have to trade back equal salary, but we'd need to replace Perk and get a backup. Instead of Rasheed or McDyess we'd need Rasheed AND McDyess (plus a backup wing, and maybe a backup pg).

Yea I don't quite get this trade. Perk is a solid center and has a great contract. Griffin will be gone so Dannys looking at Thebeet or Rubio? Thebeet maybe decent but I'd take Perk over him and if we get Rubio you'd have to think Rondo is getting traded.
