This rumor comes from a good friend of mine who tracks the league very well, as good as anyone in hear.

Last night he said the latest rumor is Wade for Rondo and Allen.

Filler would look something like Tony Allen and we would get Chalmers a good young point and James Jones, great shooter with a bad contract.

The rumor goes, the Heat think they will lose Wade no matter what so they do this trade simply to get Rondo to go with Beasly, then they have Ray Allen expiring and JO expiring, two killer contracts to be shopping this summer and in Feb when 80% of the league will be looking to clear cap space.  The deal seems pretty lopsided in our favor, but not really if you look closer.  JO and Ray Allen expiring contracts could net the Heat a gazillion pieces.  They could go for young up and coming stars to go with Rondo and Beasley or they could go win now mode and give that salary dump to PHX for Amare.

Now, the Celts get Dwane Freaking Wade to go with Truth and KG, then you our possibilities are endless too.  Any veteran who cares about winning will come here for peantus... J Kidd, Andre Miller, or Sheed.  It hurts our depth, but Dwane Wade... wow

We really don't have any depth to hurt at this point.

And I would, frankly, be pleasantly surprised if Wade can be had at all.

Just a silly rumor. Unless Dwayne Wade demands a trade or says to managment that he will under no conditions resign in Miami they will not trade him.

Miami would never, under any circumstances, do that.  Wade is the face of the franchise, and is frankly a great deal better than Rondo.

Also, Miami has no need for Ray, since they already have over $40 million in expiring contracts, and don't have any bad contracts on their roster.

leaving aside the speculative nature of this for a sec..

am I the only person who is kinda down on Wade?

all the home life stuff, the performance enhancer stuff, injuires....I don't know. he's been rubbing me the wrong way for a while.

I'd rather try to swing a three way deal if Wade is really looking to be moved....with SAC?

MIA gets: Ray and Rondo

BOS gets: Kevin Martin and #4 (Nocioni too?)

SAC gets: Wade and Chalmers

Yup, Miami is setup to either trade for a big time player to pair with Wade or to resign Wade and another max FA.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Dwayne Wade: I am staying in Miami
Pat RIley: We want Wade to stay in Miami

Heat estimated payroll in 2010 when Wade will presumably resign: 17 Million dollars.

This rumor es tres terrible.

so essentially we'd be giving up a future hall-of-famer SG, and a near future All star PG, for the rising star of Kevin Martin and an uncertain draft pick. I'd rather, Miami gets Rondo and Martin, we get the 4 and Wade (who frankly has proved himself more than K-Mart has), and The Kings get Ray and probably some future first rounders.

Not to be down on Kevin Martin, but I'm really unsure about his unorthidox shot being successful for much longer, people will figure it out.

Wade is certainly better than Rondo by a lot. but is he better than Rondo + the two big FAs they sign in 2010?

right now they need to re-sign Wade and add a Chris Bosh, etc...

but (just for the sake of discussion mind you) if this was a real deal, they would have Rondo in the bag AND be able to sign two max deal FA.

so the breakdown would be:

Wade + max FA

vs

Rondo + 2 max FA

is:

Wade and Bosh (LeBron, etc)

better than

Rondo, LeBron and Bosh

How does trading for Ray help them acquire a free agent?

Their contracts for next year are:

Wade - player option
Beasley - team option
James Jones - non-guaranteed
Cook - team option
Chalmers - team option

Every other player on their roster has an expiring contract.  If Miami wants, they can get rid of every single player on their entire roster before next year.

Also, keep in mind that Rondo is a restricted free agent next summer, and will want a hefty salary himself.  This "rumor" would make the Heat substantially worse in every way.

How does acquiring Ray help them acquire a free agent?

Their contracts for next year are:

Wade - player option
Beasley - team option
James Jones - non-guaranteed / partially guaranteed
Cook - team option
Chalmers - team option

Every other player on their roster has an expiring contract.  If Miami wants, they can get rid of every single player on their entire roster before next year.

but they would have Rondo. Ray doesn't help them free up money per se, it helps them free up money AND have Rondo.
