Don't want to give up Perk here.  I think he's too valuable down low on both ends of the floor and I have doubts on Bosh's physical presence on the defensive end and I see some overlaps with KG and Bosh's offensive games that might not mesh well on the floor together.

It's an interesting deal but I'll pass.

Just curious, Roy.  Would you immediately sign Bosh to an extension here or see how it pans out and possibly chase someone else in '10?

Interesting trade, but I pass.  Perkins is the best value at Center in the NBA, IMHO.  I think the trade is pretty good from a long term p.o.v., but I think the Cs still have a championship window for the next couple of years, and I think the Perkins-KG tandem is the best in the NBA.

I think it would be a better trade if Rondo and Calderon were left out of the deal. Not sure I'd do it though.

Interesting idea.

I'm not seeing why you'd propose this.

I'd take Rondo and Ray over Graham and Calderon without hesitation.

Bosh is an offensive upgrade over Perk no doubt (even though Perk showed nice improvement this year) I like Perk defensively---particularly against beefy centers.

I like Bosh as a player but considering he's looking at big money going forward and the other 2 incoming players aren't as good, I'd pass on that deal.

I think it's a good start. Toronto keeps popping into my head as a trade partner. It really looks like Bosh will be gone from there eventually, so they may try to unload him this summer. I have mixed feelings on Bosh. I do think Calderon's stock might be low right now because he played injured for a majority of 08-09. Would be interesting to pair him with KG after that game in Boston last year.

  • Rondo = Good
Bosh isn't a center, so this trade doesn't really work.  Bosh actually needs a guy like Perk doing the physical dirty work to be really effective (kinda like KG).

Perk is extremely valuable to this team. This playoffs has shown us even more how important he is. Orlando isn't going away so if we want any hope of winning the east, we need someone to guard Dwight. Bosh couldn't do that.

Also, Calderon would be a huge downgrade from Rondo. He is the epitome of someone who's stats are far more impressive than reality. He has high assist to turnover, because he never tries to create anything. He often holds the ball too long, bogging down offenses. His biggest value is end game free throws.

Just seeing how overrated Rondo and Perk have become. ;)

I love Perk, and Rondo is an excellent young player, but to me Chris Bosh is at a superstar level, and Calderon is an extremely efficient, pass-first point guard.  Ray is obviously much better than Graham, but you've got to make the salaries work somehow.  I think the gap between Bosh and every other player in this deal is substantial.

Also, it amazes me that many of the same people who want Rasheed Wallace as a backup center would turn their nose up at Bosh.  Bosh has played plenty of center in his career, and has played the position well.  We lose something defensively, but pick something up in terms of scoring and rebounding.

Just curious, Roy.  Would you immediately sign Bosh to an extension here or see how it pans out and possibly chase someone else in '10?

I think you pretty much have to sign him.  We won't do much better than 23/10 from a front court player.

Again, I started this mostly to see how much people people overvalued Perk and Rondo, but I think I'd make this trade.  Certainly, it's nowhere near the lop-sided deal in Toronto's favor that some seem to be suggesting.

Roy,

No! No! And No!

Bosh is soft, Joey Graham makes Tony Allen look smart, and Calderon will forever be quasi-injured/I HATE his game.

I wouldn't trade Perk straight up for Bosh because Bosh and KG have a very similar game and we need Perk at the 5. Perk's value is off the charts.

Oddly enough, I would rather keep Perk and Ray and include Garnett in this deal.

For that reason, I think including New York makes this a lot more attractive:

BOS Sends Rondo, Ray, Scal, House, TA
BOS Gets Bosh, Duhon, Curry, Humphries

TOR Sends Bosh, Calderon, Kapono, Humphries
TOR Gets Rondo, Ray, Harrington, #8

NYC Sends Harrington, Duhon, Curry, #8
NYC Gets Calderon, Kapono, Scal, House, TA

Our frontcounrt gets ridiculous in a hurry, but we have obvious and large holes in the backcourt - although I believe Duhon could start for this squad.

Duhon / ??? / Pruitt
??? / ??? / Giddens
Pierce / Walker
Garnett / Bosh / Humphries
Perkins / Curry

Maybe Jack or Von Wafer for part of the MLE, then pray Kidd and Hill come for the minimum or LLE? If they came this is a championship squad.

I wouldn't trade Perk straight up for Bosh . . .

That seems to be the consensus, and all I can say is, a lot of people are missing the boat on how good Bosh is.

I don't think it's overvaluing Perk to say this. There's a lot at play. Perk's extremely reasonable contract, his ability to defend anyone in the low post. On the other hand, you have Bosh, who will be paid a lot of money with an offensive skill set that already exists in KG and a defensive skill set that is not up to the level required of this team.

I don't think anyone is saying Perk is a better player than Bosh, I just don't think Bosh is as good a fit for this team.
