The comments on the Orlando Sentinel are hilarious, this is the best most reasonable one so far in my opinion:

The kid was too close to the court. Doesn't seem like a problem to me. If you site next to Shamo's pool you're going to get wet. If you have court side seats & your spoiled little brat gets out of his seat, well he's going to get knocked around by people 4 times his size.

And actually, let's take this one step further.  It's because the kid was out of his seat that he got pushed.  Had the kid been sitting in his seat, this whole thing never would have happened. 

It's tough being a rich kid with with court side seats.

No big deal. All BBD has to do is greet the kid, apologize, give him a signed jersey or something and it's all over.

When the 'shove' first happened, I thought the kid really got thrown, but after watching it several times, it was no big deal.  In fact, at 12 I would have gone to school the next day bragging about how I took a hit from BBD.

I agree that Davis should apologize to the kid out of good sportsmanship and to be a nice guy.  Honestly though the kid was too close to the court, he was one foot from being on the court kids should be a little further away from the action. Also Glen is a locomotive with him running at full speed you better get out of the way and that kid didn't move.  It was actually a good move by Davis because he really could have hurt the kid by accident and he shouldn't be running back to his teammates after a game winning shot having to sidestep a 12 year old kid along the way. Young kids shouldn't be 1 foot from the court on a last second play like that, that seems a bit ridiculous.

Great point! He makes a point of stating that fans shouldn't go on the court but I hope he realizes that by standing within 12 inches of the out of bounds line, that he really is still in the playing realm of basketball. Players are routinely running out of bounds all the time and if he is going to allow his 12 year old son to stand that close to the court, he has to expect he might have contact made between his son and a much larger, stronger man and a man who will probably be a lot less attentive to his son's location.

Put yourself in harm's way and when harm occurs it is your own fault, IMHO.

Notice how the NBA has shortened the player benches and moved them down towards the baseline to create more high priced tickets?  You sit down there, you take your chances that you might become a 'part' of the action.

It's a pretty funny story though.

Well, I don't know what the league considers going into the court, but it is just any body part inside the playing area, and if the father of this kid is the one on his right (from the camera POV), his arm is clearly inside the court as the clock is winding down, as his foot is about 6 inches from the sideline and he is pointing at someone during the play.

In any case, I don't think that can really be considered a serious push. A 6'8, 300 lb man "pushes" a 12 year old and the 12 year old is still standing?

I hate people like this. When this went down, I asked my father how long it took for that self important and politically correct dad to get on the phone and demand an apology in the media. I said 2 days because I thought he'd think about it for a day because I'm dumb, and my dad laughed at me and said 12 hours. He was almost DEAD on. I HATE people like this. I'd give a TP to my dad if I could.
