I know the injury discussions are getting old, but there has been very little talk of Scal -- which obviously doesn't bode well. Has anyone seen an update on him? Is he done for the year? Is he done for his career? Last I knew they were saying he was having a hard time running -- yikes  :-\

I've been under the assumption that he is done for the year - even though I don't think they've officially declared that.

When he suffered his 2nd concussion I was sort of surprised they brought him back then.

The 3rd one was unnecessary.

He needs to keep his noggin from getting knocked for a while.
Yup

He's riding bikes but still gets headaches.

Sounds to me like he's done for the season.

He had this weird quote on Scott Souza's blog:

“I’m not allowed to discuss the progress anymore. Only just, like, where I’m at right now. I worked out today and it feels good.”

This makes me think either they think he is going to be back at some point, but they don't want to let the press know until they are more sure...or much more likely, they are planning on shutting him down completely, but don't want to announce it until they are positive.

I totally agree Chris. I don't see any other possibilities other than the 2 you have outlined.

Maybe they're uncomfortable with the entire discussion. You don't want your fanbase claiming that you rushed someone back from multiple concussions based on teir interpretations of Scal's current condition.

I definitely think this is part of it.

makes total sense. still hard to imagine him coming back. it's strange to actual feel a true need for scal, but we could sure use him right now.

but i'd be pretty uncomfortable with him out there this season considering all that he's been thru.

I saw an Ainge interview on Celticsnow yesterday and he said he thinks Scal will be ready for the playoffs but that its impossible to predict because there is so much uncertainty with concussions.  So true.  Even if he is symptom free, a recent concussion seems to make someone vulnerable to future concussions.

I was a big time Scal basher until this year... He played legitimately inspired defense, to the point where we do actually miss him on the court (words I never thought I'd say). He could have helped in the postseason. I definitely think he's done though.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

I saw that interview and heard Danny yesterday on weei tell the guys that the 3rd one was not a concussion but had the symptoms like a concussion. He did say Scal is coming back for the playoffs in the radio interview.Whether you want to believe it is another thing.

I think the reason he's not allowed to discuss it anymore is very simple: nobody really knows when (or how) a post-concussion syndrome heals and a) Scal is still presenting symptoms or b) has been till very recently and they want to give him some more time.

99% of the times the cure happens after the enforcement of a favorable final judgment of a litigation process. With Scal, who knows? It may take months, it may take some psychological therapy - or maybe he has been asymptomatic in the last 2 weeks or so and they are getting him ready to come back soon.

This is the sort of injury that there is no time table or a "normal" period of recovery.  A former teammate (keeper) had his career ended by the same thing as scal but not as many this quick.  I don't think we'll see him this year.  As long as he is ok in the end, basketball (pro) is about 1/10th of the guys life.
