I know it's too early to say if the C's will want them back on their roster after this summer, depending essentially on how much they will provide during the playoffs. But I thought the topic was interesting.

However, I wonder what you guys think about it : whatever their results are in the playoffs (#18 or not), should the C's re-sign Mikki and Starbury next season, considering that they would have played their roles, as expected?

I was disappointed to see Posey and P.J Brown go away last year. P.J was right to retire, but still I miss him, and Posey preferred the most appealing contract, I can't blame him for it (even if I did because I was disappointed by his "loyalty"  :P).

With Marbury and Moore I think the situation is quite different from last year's. Marbury does his best now to show he has changed and can play good basketball, but would another team offer him a good contract? And would he accept it (like Posey did?) I don't think Moore will appeal much teams, and I see him as a guy who would resign for the minimum with the Celtics, considering that his age isn't an issue as it was for P.J (who was right to opt for retirement at 39 years) but I can be wrong.

Anyway, I think it would be better for the C's to sign these two players back. By doing it, they wouldn't have to sign some free-agents in late february, and their rotations could be worked and effective during the whole season. In my opinion, and, I insist, considering that Marbury and Moore would have played well their roles during the playoffs, the C's should make their priority of keeping them in the roster. What do you guys think?

I see....I see Marbury...I see him wanting to wear green, but its not a celtics jersey. Its....its....its a jersey made of one hundred dollar bills some desparate team grossly overpays him this summer after a remarkably strong and deep playoff run this spring! I see...I see....I see he's ironically still wearing $15 shoes....and a hundred dollar bill jersey!

First off, as you said it is too early to tell. But I am going to assume the Celtics will not be able to afford Marbury next season. ...But if he really wants a title maybe he'll surprise us and stick around. My prediction is that he'll be gone.

Moore is definitely on the list to keep. But only if Sheed, McDyess, Joe Smith, Pachulia, Nesterovic can't be plucked from the FA market.  ;D

^ Yeah, if this experiment turns out to be successful, I have a hard time believing Starbury is not going to try and cash in. Plus I have a soft spot for Gabe and hope he can be the back point by next year. Mikki on the other hand I think is more likely to stay barring a spectacular playoff performance.

Marbury will be the posey of this years team.  Which is in no way disrespect towards James or putting him anywhere near Marbury.  I like Posey, can't stand marbury.  But both these guys are "hired guns".  Marbury is playing for his career, if he plays well and doesn't screw up the locker room someone is going to make him an offer.  Is he the sort of guy that will be loyal to the c's for signing him this year? no way
In his mind he can start (maybe he can) for some nba teams which he will want to do and go where the paycheck is the biggest.  For us; use him then let him walk.
Moore I think is a good pickup and if he can stay with us for little $ then he is a good guy to have on the bench.  Next year I doubt if powe/davis will be here, one will be gone imo.  Honestly scal could be done with multiple concussions so we'll need a big even if scalbaby is back.

If Marbury plays well, I can't imagine him staying.  If he plays poorly, I can't imagine the C's wanting him back.  And it's not just a greed thing.  Sure, he's probably spring for more money, but I also don't see why he'd want to stick around to play 15 minutes or less backing up Rondo next season.  Maybe if he proves he can play some 2 and play alongside Rondo, it'll be a different story, but if he proves all that, someone will probably offer him a better deal.

Exclusively as opponents. Perhaps there's a chance Moore stays, but I doubt it.

I can see Perk, KG, BBD, Moore as our bigs for next year.

guard wise.....i don't see Marbury coming back unless we win a championship and he suddenly isn't greedy.

next year 3 players are gone from the celts bench

tony allen - traded for a player then waived

Powe - no doubt about it davis is more valuable with is new jumper and unique body. Plus powe has his sibs to look after and will take a full mle some team will offer him

pruitt - had his chance and won't get another for the rest of this year or ever

unless semih erden is ready next year i'm sure we can use moore again. I feel he likes playing as a celt and with his career dwindling down he will cost a bargain 2 million with another 2 million team option the eyar after.

marbury same as powe

Wow, it's something like a consensus.  Starbury will hopefully price himself out of our range by his playoff performance, thus setting the stage for next year's value-enhancing vet.  Moore maybe will play well enough to justify keeping him as long energy big, kinda like House as the vet sharpshooter.

If he's lucky, Marbury will be playing in Kiev next year.

Marbury is just used to being paid way more than we could even think of affording.  Moore is more thinkable.

Marbury will cost too much-- only here for a ring and redemption.

Moore as a last resort.  He's here because we couldn't get anyone better (with any certainty).

Next year's FA market has much better big men that are worth the MLE or part of it.  A vet pg picked up in FA would be helpful.

Figure TA/House/Veal are tradebait next year for an upgrade on the bench---possibly Grant Hill or a scorer off the bench.  There's no first rounder to bring in next year (unless DA buys one like Rondo) so next year DA will have to wheel and deal wisely to fill out the bench with better players.

I think they both play their last game for the Celtics in June. Marbury, especially if successful is better than at least 10-15 of the starting PGs in the league, he'll get paid and start elsewhere. Moore just doesn't seem to be the type of off-the-bench-big this team needs long term.

With Nesterovic, Pachulia and a couple of other interesting bench big men on the market that I think are not only better players but better fits than Moore, I can't see him returning either.
