In regards to Marbury, I'm not sure that he doesn't stick here after this year. Even if he plays well, I don't see teams that have a young core wanting to sign him. It's one thing having Marbury on a winning team with a veteran core, but if you put him back on a losing team with a young core there is a lot of risk there.

The other aspect is that Marbury is 32 years old. His game is on the decline. So no matter how he plays, I see a lot of teams not even thinking about picking him up even if he plays well. You can rule out all the teams that he has played already because he left those teams on bad terms. You can pretty much rule out all the non-playoff teams since they wouldn't want to take on the risk. You can rule out some of the playoff teams as well (Orlando has 2 quality pgs, Lebron says no, Utah/Portland wouldn't take him, NO doesn't have money, Chicago has Rose/Hinrich, etc.)

In the end, the only competition if Marbury plays well will probably be 3-4 teams that are contenders looking for that extra boost. But with players like AI, Kidd, Bibby, Miller being free agents also, I doubt Marbury is going to be on top of their lists.

Several factors in no particular order:

How well they play out the regular season/playoffs.

How much they cost to re sign if we decide we are interested.

Who is available on the FA/trade market that we like better.

How many of our 'other' players we re sign.

How they fit in the locker room.

How well they accept their roles.

As the OP stated, too early. Still worth watching and analyzing as the season finishes.

Marbury will be the posey of this years team.  Which is in no way disrespect towards James or putting him anywhere near Marbury.  I like Posey, can't stand marbury.  But both these guys are "hired guns".  Marbury is playing for his career, if he plays well and doesn't screw up the locker room someone is going to make him an offer.  Is he the sort of guy that will be loyal to the c's for signing him this year? no way
In his mind he can start (maybe he can) for some nba teams which he will want to do and go where the paycheck is the biggest.  For us; use him then let him walk.
Moore I think is a good pickup and if he can stay with us for little $ then he is a good guy to have on the bench.  Next year I doubt if powe/davis will be here, one will be gone imo.  Honestly scal could be done with multiple concussions so we'll need a big even if scalbaby is back.

[Edited.] ... Poor Stephon Marbury is trying to start over with a new start to his career, happy to be here, its exciting he's here and you are all putting him down. It is cause he's not young and developing?!!  Get over yourselves and give me a break. I hope Marbury comes back next season and beyond for 10 more seasons after that.

Why does anyone care about how they fit in the locker room? Are you all a bunch of behavior counselors all of a sudden?

1. The point to be made is that hopefully Steph can do the job here and be an explosive bench player for us. However, he probably is still a starter in this league, just not for us with Rondo. Therefore, he will command much more money than we will be willing to pay him to be a backup. I'm guessing it would be more of a paycut than 80% of NBA players would take to stay on a winning team.

2. I understand giving someone a break, but Stephon in no way deserves any benefit of the doubt when it comes to contract issues.

3. If you CAN NOT STAND Boston fans, why are you spending ANY of your time in this forum filled with them?

Most of the athletes in professional sports today do not tolerate scumbag behavior for long in the locker room. The immature ones do exist that think it is cool or nobody's business to be sure. Most realize that people who act decently in the locker room make better and more reliable teammates.

That whole bad boy, antisocial behavior thing is not so cool anymore among people who want to be winners. To think that this sort of thing is not monitored and evaluated by management and coaching staffs is just plain naive. People are left undrafted and unsigned year after year in pro sports because of it.

When 25% of NBA players recently said that Starbury was the player they least wanted to play with out of any player in the entire NBA, I think it's valid to be worried about potential chemistry issues.  So far, so good, but we're not through the season yet.

I hope both stay, but right now it's difficult to know what the team and the players will want. My guess is that Marbs will sign a similar deal to Eddie's one last summer and ideally Moore gets another year at the minimum

While the odd fascination with youthful ineptitude on this board is duly noted - hello, Paddy, anyone who's spent any time in a locker room will tell you that chemistry in basketball is extremely important.

I have to admit that I chuckled at the mention of Steph and Posey in the same sentence.

I don't think Marbury will be back next year and I don't care if Moore is back.

Marbury will be back:

1.  If he plays well and doesn't disrupt anything (especially if the C's repeat)

2.  If he's will to accept whatever Ainge is willing to or can  pay him.

Quote
Asked about if he wanted to play in Boston next season, Marbury said, "If they want me, I'll be here."

The way Marbury looks now and his age, I doubt he'll get much more than the MLE from anyone. As far as Moore goes, this year shows the need for depth at the bigs.
