He didn't do it on purpose, the scene did jump out at me during game.
What would have been funny is Paul bringing him back to our side holding his c's jersey at him.  Then once on bench have willie may bring a c's jersey and put the cameras on him to change!

He did nothing wrong, the crowd was cheering and clapping like crazy, they two guys Pierce eventually high fived were cheering and clapping.  The kid in the LeBron jersey just stood there doing nothing.  It wasn't until Paul started high fiving those guys that the little kid wanted a piece of the action.  Sorry kid, no go for you.

I hope that's not how you feel about kids in general......

You have a higher opinion of the decision-making capacities of 7 year olds than I do.  I don't see a lot of second-graders making rational decisions about what team or player they want to follow (or rational decisions about much of anything, for that matter.)

You don't think 7yr old kids watch SportsCenter and see all of those LeBron highlights and eventually beg their parents for a LeBron jersey for Christmas?  Really?
Hmmm.
I was never a golfer, could care less about the sport.  That didn't keep my kid from becoming a HUGE Tiger fan.
My oldest son became a Duke fan because they were always one of the best teams in the NCAA while he was growing up.  This even though both his parents HATED Duke.
My youngest became a Michigan fan because of the fab five and still follows them in both football and basketball today, even though he never stepped foot in the state and until last year's Capital One Bowl never saw either team play in person and his mothers beloved Penn State is one of their biggest rivals.

Steve will appreciate this one, or not (LOL!).  We have a very good friend who is a big Missouri fan.  Her daughter became a Kansas fan at the age of 8 partly because she went to school with a bunch of kids who were Kansas fans.  Missouri and Kansas absolutely hate each other and this girl had been going to Missouri games with her Mom who had season tickets for years.  But the Tigers weren't winning and the Jayhawks were so she went with the rest of her friends and became a fan of the team her mother despises.

I don't find any of these examples irrational, in fact quite the opposite.  Much as you seem to think it's impossible truth is kids of all ages do have minds of their own and, yeah, they tend to like players and teams that are high profile and exciting.

Kid caused any trouble he had for himself-- he wore a cavs jersey to a celtics game, sat in the front row, didn't clap, and then suddenly expected a high five. Absolutely did not deserve any recognition by Pierce. I know when I was 7 I wasn't the type of kid who would expect someone on the team opposite the one I was supporting to give me a high five when I was wearing my team's jersey-- that's just stupid.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Now that's just unacceptable.  In every way, shape and form.   ;)

(But once the Jayhawks get to the Association, love 'em all you want!  I can think of one in particular who has managed to find his way into my good graces over the past few years...)

Really, thanks for sharing that, Jay.  Got a good kick out of that one, despite the young lady's gross misconduct.   8)

As if I coulnd't love Paul Pierce any more.  That was absolutely classic.  I don't even think he did it on purpose, but I'd like to imagine he did.  Serves the little kid right.  ;)

I would have rather had Paul diss the guy standing next to the kid, who was most likely his front-running father.  I'm pretty sure the kid wasn't there by himself.

Kids don't know any better; one team is as good as another.  I'm in the "treat the kid right and make a fan for life" group.

That kid is at least 7 years old if not older.  You really telling me a 7yr old doesn't know one team from another?
My sons followed particular teams from the time they were three.  They knew exactly who was who and they had their favorite players that they rooted for.
Funny story.  My youngest son when he was four asked if he could change his name.  It wasn't until he told me what he wanted to change it to that I understood why.  It just happened to be the name of his favorite college basketball player.

Let me also point out that in that video it clearly shows everyone standing and clapping for PP before he starts high fiving.  The guy standing next to the kid, who I agree is most likely the kids dad is clapping.  The kid never does.  Not before PP went past him the first time nor when PP made his way back.
I'm not sure why you would assume the Dad is a front-runner.

7 year old kids don't randomly decide that they're going to follow the Cavs, and buy themselves a Cavs jersey.  There's some outside influence there.

You have a higher opinion of the decision-making capacities of 7 year olds than I do.  I don't see a lot of second-graders making rational decisions about what team or player they want to follow (or rational decisions about much of anything, for that matter.)
What's being rational got to do with anything when it comes to being a fan?  Kids frequently follow the hyped names, not always what team their parents follow.  Speaking for myself, I only like one professional team that my father liked and that's the C's (but not because he liked them).  Every other sport I liked my favorite team based on my own choice.  When going to a sporting event, I'd proudly where a shirt with showing my loyalty for MY team.  If I was that kid and a true Cavs fan, I wouldn't be looking to high-5 Pierce.

Kid got what he deserved---ignored.

Talk about your teachable moment, Paul made his point and the kid will be better for it.

First off, TP for OP. That was great. I remember watching that in the game and filing it in my subconscious as "very funny".

Watching the tape several times, notice the adult (his dad?) who high fives Pierce and is oblivious to the snub, instead looking to see himself on the jumbotron.

But, I must say, after reading Roy's take, I think he is right. The kid is only 7 or so. I loved Oscar Robertson in the 60's (when he wasn't playing the Celtics) and even chose to wear his number throughout high school (14).  That did not make me any less of a Celtic fan.
