After his game against LA in the finals, and this big ESPN game between the 2 teams that will most likely play in the conference finals.... Leon might be getting PAID this off-season. I'm thinking that with a couple more of these performances in the post-season, teams like the Spurs, Jazz, Magic, Hornets, Hawks and Rockets could arguably "over-pay" for him becuase of his knack to "Show" up on the big stage.

He needed to prove he can produce consistently, night in nigh out, no matter the matchup. So far, he failed to do that. I can't seen a team throwing even a short MLE contract at him, unless he really explodes from now on.

Perhaps.  The one thing the Celts have going for them is the economy; it's still going to be bad this summer, and the salary cap and luxury tax will go down.  That means less money for free agents.  With such a talented class about to hit the market, Powe might not get the type of offers he otherwise might.

agreed, normally a gm like isiah  :-[  etc would throw huge money at guys like leon when they shouldn't get that level
hopefully the economy AND the idea of winning will keep he and davis in our fold

I have a feeling both Powe and Davis will be resigned, and mainly in part because they don't take away from the MLE.

Last night was probably the best game of his career...I have no idea why anyone would give him big money, decent moeney maybe, but leon will always be a role player, or maybe a starter on a team that loses 50 games

If it weren't for (a) the economy, (b) questions about the CBA and (c) the desire of every team to have caproom in 2010 when the Annointed One becomes a FA, then Powe would have a shot at Ronnie Turiaf-like money.

But because of those three factors, he won't have much money thrown at him.  At this point, I think both he and BBD will end up with deals similar to the ones received by TA and House (my guess: each will receive 2 years, $5M total).

Celtics fan for life.

I love Leon!  He is absolutely great at catching and finishing.  It seems like every year he gets it going towards the end of the year.  Leon would have so much more value around the league if he was consistent.  Anyone else notice that he has been catching the ball much closer to the rim?  This lets him be much more decisive.  We havn't seen him catching at the foul line and looking like a deer in headlights in a while now.  I'm sure Doc should get some credit for having him catch the ball closer to the rim where he is an absolute beast.

Powe > Turiaf

yeah i pray he can stay in Boston, he is so fun to watch play.  He plays really well with Rondo, Pierce, and KG.  Great chemistry, great post moves, defence, rebounding, and dunks.  great guy, powe the show.

I think Leon hurt himself with that so-so spell he had awhile back. I thought he could have earned himself a near MLE contract if he performed well this season, like a Maxiell, but based on what he's done this season I would be surprised if he isn't in the Carl Landry ballpark contract wise.

Powe is hurt a lot by the lack of minutes he receives here. He might be best off taking a lower contract elsewhere, play more minutes and get more touches, and then sign a longer term deal.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
if every game the celtics played was nationally televised, then leon would probably be getting a max contract this summer.

but those of us who watch the other 60 games that are not see a nice role player who hustles and makes the most of his limited abilities...and sees a player who is inconsistent.

leon is a bo outlaw (past reference) or chuck hayes (present reference) type of player who i'd give a 4 year, $16 million contact to.  if he doesn't refuses and wants a lot more then i'd shake hands, thank him and wish him well...

Powe matches up very well against certain teams -- and (without researching this) Cleveland seems to be one on of them.

He also struggles against taller, athletic players with talent and I think has been too inconsistent to warrant a big money guaranteed contract.  However when he plays well, the C's generally seem to play real well.

Someone may in fact try to overpay him but the C's have the current economic climate in their favor when it comes to retaining talent.

I don't know.  I think much like Shawn Marion on the Suns, Leon is in the perfect system for his skill set.
He plays with so many other players who demand attention that he is able to sneak his way to the basket for easy pass offs and hustle for garbage points and rebounds.

Not taking anything away from Powe because I like him a lot, but I'm not sure he can do what he does for the majority of the teams in this league. JMO.

The highest offer he will get is a Jason Maxiell size deal. Which is nothing to sneeze at but not a full MLE deal. I doubt that he'll even get that though.

I think his defense is going to hold him back a lot.  He's flat out terrible on the defensive end in my opinion.  Maybe some team will overpay him, but I really don't see him getting anything more then 4 mil a year.
