I was one of the outspoken critics of Mikki Moore when we signed him.  I exaggerated his flaws, and overlooked his attributes.  Cooler heads on this board requested patience. I wanted none of it. When Smith was released and signed by Cavs, it only increased my disgust.

A funny thing has happened over the last couple of games. I have watched Moore, and am starting to realize this guy is going to be fine. He has a great stroke, good foul shooter, goes for the boards more than I thought he would, and is total team player and hustler.  WIth the recent improvement of BBD and Powe, I am starting to feel MM is going to be sufficient to round out our bench as far as bigs go.

My bad, Mikki. My bad.

A fine mea culpa, Footey.  I would say that he's been a pleasant surprise for most of us.

In talking about Mikki Moore in the past few weeks we were comparing him to Joe Smith, not just looking at Moore individually. I think he can help the C's. He looked better last nite after a few games and a few days of practice. I think he'll help us come playoff time. As to Joe Smith, we couldn't afford to wait for him. So he went to the Cavs. He was on the Cavs last year and we beat them. If we got him he'd be a project like Moore because he doesn't know our system so I'm not sure he'd work out any better for us.

What I love about Mikki is his hustle.  You can just see it how he runs up and down the court.  He is here for the team, and he will do what is needed of him no questions asked.

Good to see you coming around footey - I'm not a huge Mikki booster, but I think his game fits our strengths well (hustle, defense, jumpshooting big men) and shores up some of our weaknesses (depth, length).  He may or may not be better than Smith or anyone else would be, but he'll help us, and I'm glad to have him aboard.

I like his hustle and energy. It fits in with what this team does. I think he might also become one of my favorite to watch when he's sitting on the bench. Anyone catch his reaction when Ray made the dagger 3 yesterday  ;D
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I didn't notice it.  What did he do?

I criticized Moore because he's not a great defender, he doesn't block shots, doesn't rebound, and fouls too much.

In 51 total minutes with the Celtics, he has six rebounds, zero blocks, and ten personal fouls.  He has zero defensive rebounds, and six personal fouls, in the last two games.  The Celtics have been outscored by 17 points in those 51 minutes, and by 24 points with Moore on the floor in the last three games.

I'm not ready to change my opinion quite yet.  I support him because he's a Celtic, but he's not overwhelming me.

It's hard not to like Mikki.

He kind of reminds me of a big-man's version of Eddie House.  Not the greatest amount of natural talent, and he'll always have weaknessed - but, a great teammate, enthusiastic, a hard worker, someone who does what he's asked without complaint, and someone who develops their strengths to make themselves a niche in the league.  Someone who's floated around a long time before finding some stability.

Eddie can't really run the point even though he's the size of a 1; Mikki can't really play as a traditional center even though he's seven-foot.

great analogy!  Another thing is mikki's outside shot is good at spreading floor if he is playing w/ perk or leon.  And while he is 32 I think he's a "young" 32, still has nice foot speed and hustles every time.  I think he's more than a pj 1/2 a year signing and a better p/u than people think.  He does tend to foul but old friend scott pollard was really good at giving his fouls in timely/forceful manner.  We need perk & kg on the floor when it matters, mikkie, leon, davis give the fouls when its needed.

I was reserving judgement at the time of the signing, and I am still doing so now. I think he needs at least another two weeks with this team to really evaluate what he brings. So far, as Roy stated, his statistics are backing up his perceived weaknesses. I have noticed his willingness to help defend and knock down that jumper. We will really see how effective he will be when Doc optimizes his rotations with the new guys inserted. Maybe then we will see what Mikki really brings with the right combination of players to offset his shortcomings.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
i'm not ready to jump on this band wagon yet...the stats that Roy cites don't lie.  I understand it's not all about numbers (right Scalabrine fans?), but numbers do paint a picture, and Moore's don't paint a real pretty one.

The answer is: None!

The correct question is: How much PT will Mikki Moore see when KG and Scalabrine come back from there injuries?

He is an insurance policy for when any two of the following go down due to injury and or foul trouble: KG, Perk, BBD, Powe, and Scalabrine. Nothing Moore, nothing Less.

I too changed my mind on him but for the worse...

He is a horrible defender. Especially man to man, which is not really a surprise...what I am worried about is that he is also a poor help defender. He looks uncoordinated and a little too POB-ish on the defensive end.

He also can`t rebound and his biggest problem is that he is SOFT! He is a mixture of Blount and POB on defense, IMO.

I don`t think he will get any serious minutes in the playoffs. He is just too soft for this team!
