look at it like a scale, soap...

if you can acknowledge that CLE is better than they were last year and you acknowledge that they almost beat us last year in the playoffs and they may now have home court advantage this year in the playoffs...

when you look at that way, when you add everything up, then all Smith has to do it tip the scales. he doesn't have to be some all-world player. he just needs to give CLE that little something to change the balance...

and the thing that Smith does for CLE is it allows Varejao to move back into that hugely effective role of  "havoc-reeker". he no longer will have the pressure of being a starter and can just cause trouble.

maybe you don't see that as an important component, but i am worried about it.

Sigh. Someone clearly missed the joke.

What I'm hoping is that Mikki Moore is hearing all of this "We should've waited for Joe Smith" talk, it'll light a fire under him, and he'll play out of his mind to prove to people that he was the right decision

The thing is, Moore always has a fire lit under him.  That's something that nobody can criticize.  He's just not that talented.

What was so great about what Joe smith added to cleveland last year? he was a revolving door when they put him on KG and clevelands worst post defender by a large amount, Mikki Moore literally couldve brought to cleveland everything Smith did

Hmm...  well, in the playoffs, Smith held opposing players to an eFG% of 43.1%, so he wasn't too much of a revolving door.  In games 3 through 7 in the playoffs against the Celts last season, he hit 20 out of 29 shots.

I know people like to make stuff on here a lot of times, but the stats and facts are readily available.

Smith didnt hold anyone to 43 %...its called missing shots, I do not think Joey smith is a good defender, or as good a player as you seem to believe...as far as him making 20 of his last 29 shots against us..he shot an overall 48% in the playoffs, while Like i said above, in Moores last playoff apperance he shot 56% and scored a total of 135 points and grabbed 67 rebounds in 12 games..in 13 games last year Joe smith scored 86 pts and grabbed 60 rebounds....AGAIN Mikki Moore is a capable of playing just as good or better than smith in a series

Moore adds little.  We'll see regarding Starbury.

We'll see with Gooden and Smith too. Marbury is a far better player than all of the players mentioned anyways.

If 1) he shakes off his rust, 2) plays a team game, 3) commits to at least passable defense, and 4) shuts up.  We'll see.

So a 39 yr old not playing for a year could shake of his rust, but it's questionable that Marbury can?

The 39 year old wasn't carrying the baggage starhead is.  I'm more worried about the other stuff than I am the rust

Moore has a better jumper than Joe. I almost think these guys are neck and neck, overall.

No, he doesn't.  Smith shoots a higher percentage on jumpers, and shoots more jump shots overall.

I looked at film from Moore in the Nets days and Joe with Cleveland.

Hmm...  when is the last time a "revolving door" held somebody to 43% shooting?

Joe Smith was a huge part of why Cleveland gave us trouble in the three games Cleveland won against us in the playoffs last year.  Continue to downplay his contribution all you want, he's a good player.

no i get it. you were channelling Iverson.

I just thought you also were making the point we shouldn't be worrying so much about Smith.

Hindsight is always 20/20.  The buy out took place at the last second.  Obviously not a sure thing.  It could easily have been no Mikki Moore, and us talking today, of no Smith.   Asking why Ainge did not make a move on Moore.  A more meaningful argument was made by Roy, when he said, if we had waited, lost out on Moore, with no Smith, could we today pursue someone as good as Moore.  In effect, the upgrade of Smith over Moore, was worth the risk of a downgrade from Moore to whomever is left over.

yeah, we've talked about this too....it's really the crux of the argument.

Swift just came available. I personally would go after Horry or Pollard. but there are guys out there.

maybe we shift our focus to the wing with a guy like Bonzi Wells....there are options.

Our team is a monster, don't you realize it?

Competing with three other monsters.  Two of those competitors will improve (Cleveland and San Antonio), and two of them have better records (Cleveland and Los Angeles).

I don't think Ben Wallace out and Smith in is an improvement.

Danny seems to be giving off pretty strong signals that Gabe's about to lose his job... wonder if we're actually done adding new guys this season or not.

and thats what stands out in my mind when his name comes up...he played KG very well.I heard  the  female announcer during the Cavs /Hawk game last night almost guarantees Smith is going to the Cavs this week.

We'll see if Wallace is out for the year.  Also, Smith improves the Cavs' offense, even if the defense declines until Wallace gets back.

Tattered is beat. Both the naked eye and the stats indicate that Smith is a far better player than Moore. There's no point in stubbornly denying the stats, and there's NO WAY that Moore could do what Smith did against us last year.

And the "it wasn't good defense, they just missed shots" argument is laughable, especially considering how long ago that series was played. That is, unless you went back and watched all 7 of those games just to see if Joe Smith played good defense or the Celtics "just missed", but I doubt you did that.
