Was reading about Sheed's melt down and it said that he might get cut since his contract's almost up and Detroit is going no where fast.

While I think it is unlikely, would you want him on the C's?

Pros:  Length, defense, experience, outside shot

Cons: Nut job, may be done as a player (ala Finley as a Spur), doesnt seem to be a fan of the C's

Yes.  Absolutely.

No one in the league needs a change of scenery more than him.  He's not THAT old, I believe he's got a bit left in the tank.

He's buddy-buddy with KG.  Similar skillset, but he can defend the 5.  'Sheed's the first big off the bench, splitting time between backing up KG and backing up Perk.  Another shooter when we need to spread the floor.

He won't get offered more than the MLE, not in this environment (economy sucks, shrinking caps/lux tax limits, everyone targetting 2010).

Detroit, I think is going to want to move in another direction, and they have young bigs like Maxiell that they like a lot.

'Sheed loves to win, and he's have a chance to be a real contributor for 25-30 minutes a game (keeping fresh for the playoffs) and a chance for another ring.

I don't think the C's are afraid of his intensity or his personality.

Great fit for us that I think is very do-able.  He should be our priority, if we're looking to maximize the chance of winning in the next three years.

3 year, full MLE.  I don't see anyone offering more.

EDIT: Detroit's not going to cut him.  I'm thinking this summer.  If they did, WHOA NELLIE!, that would be a gift from the Gods!

I hate Sheed, I would not want him on my team personally.

If Sheed got cut (which I don't think he will) I'd take him in a heartbeat.  He would make us the clear favorites for a title, I think (as opposed to co-favorites right now).

Iverson's the problem with that team, not 'Sheed.  They're both going to walk in the offseason.  They're just a mess - back when Detroit was GOOD, it was all about how they were the epitome of a TEAM, they all played hard, they shared the rock, they played as a cohesive unit.  That's the antithesis of Iverson-ball (OK, he plays hard, but as someone at the Free Press said he makes all of his teammates NOT want to play hard because he dominates the ball so much).

I know that they wanted to clear salary, that the Iverson trade wasn't REALLY about 2009...  but who are they going to sign that's a better fit for them that Billups was?

Neither player's going to get cut - but if you had to ax one, wouldn't you ax AI?  I'm waiting for them to go on a winning streak if AI's out for a while and Rip gets to start again.

what about the offseason?  do you agree that he should be the #1 priority?

Another poster suggested 3year MLE.  If that could sink him, would you do it?
God bless and good night!

I agree.  I'd make Sheed the #1 target.  I understand the desire for a more traditional center who plays the post, but I like Sheed for his range, his intensity, and his defense.  I think he'd be like a mini-KG on the team, and I don't think he'd be a disruption to chemistry.

i think there was already a sheed thread less than a week ago. I have the same response.

I have a need for Sheed!

I'd sign him to the MLE in a heart beat - 2 years. Maybe the 3rd with a health incentive. I doubt he wants to play that long anyway.

His versatility would be tremendous on the bench. Our length and team defense would go to another level.

There really AREN'T any "traditional" centers out there any more, are there?

Just looking over the guys who are likely to be available in free agency and might make the rotation, you've got:

Zaza Pachulia
Varajao (can opt out; will he?)
Chris Anderson
Nesterovic

I suppose we could cobble together our expiring contracts for a trade, but 'Sheed is, I think, miles ahead of the other available big men for what this team needs.  Plus, I'm more than comfortable with 'Sheed playing D against centers; his game kinda overlaps with KG's on offense, but I think of him as a much better defender against true big men than KG is.

If you've got a big-man rotation of KG, Perk, and 'Sheed?  I mean, that's a frontcourt, at least on the defensive side, for the ages.  You are NOT scoring in the paint against those guys!

You still might be able to sign Joe Smith at the vet minimum or the LLE, too.

I think the overwhelming positive response here is clear.  If 'sheed was available this season (bet money he won't be) then we'd go after him hard (which is one reason why he won't be available).  If available in the post-season, which he will be, and willing to sign for something we can afford... no hesitation.  GRAB HIM!

He would solve our frontcourt depth problem completely.  I think he is the kind of guy who wouldn't have a problem coming off the bench if he was 20-25 minutes a game, which I think he would.  He can shoot the three and spread the defense.  He's got a cool spot in his hair.

The difference between enigmatic players like Cassell, Rodman, Horry, and Wallace and the likes of Starhead is that the first four are winners and champions who happen to be bizarre personalities.

The Starheads, McGradys, and Carters are selfish flakes who happen to be perpetual losers.

I'd take Wallace and all of his strangeness on my team anytime.

Why we want Sheed:
- One of the most purely talented players in basketball (Barkley said at one point he has the ability to be the best player in the league.)
- Constant source of entertainment (consistently warms up during games shooting left handed baseline 3's....and making them)

Why we will never get Sheed:
-Detroit will never cut him
-He will get more money than we can pay him

Guaransheed.
