The Globe is reporting that this isn't done yet:

Quote
Center Mikki Moore's agent said early this evening that his client has yet to make a decision on which team he will play for after he clears waivers tomorrow morning.

Agent Mark Bartelstein said the Celtics were amongst as many as four teams that Moore was mulling over joining. Bartlestein also mentioned Denver, New Orleans, Dallas, San Antonio, and Phoenix as potential suitors. He also added that Boston was a strong contender and said his client will not have a firm decision until tomorrow after he clears waivers.

"It's definitely something he's interested in," said Bartelstein of the Celtics. "But stuff happens (referring to Denver center Nene's knee injury). We'll wait until the morning to see where we are at."

While the Celtics are a strong contender for Moore's services, it's possible other teams might be able to outbid Boston financially.

I knew that original report sounded sketchy.

Good. If we end up paying this guy a cent over the minimum, then it's looking like another example of Danny not doing his homework - a la O'Blount.

it seems that maybe the money and/or role offered Moore by the Cs was not of the "bowling over" variety.

that is to say, he would love to play for the Cs even in a small role, but would rather more money and more PT on a playoff team...

I'm hoping on this because i just don't see Moore as an impact guy for us.

The Celtics should have traded whoever they had to for Joe Smith and James Posey. According to this blog, if we had Smith and Posey in the line up we could have went undefeated this year.

heheheh, TP

I think you can take the smallness of the Celtics' offer to the bank.

Pun intended.

Im not 100% satisfied with the signing but Im happy to make a move.  Mikki Moore definetly isnt a defensive specialist but the guy is 7 foot tall and he works hard, at this point in the year with all the question marks around all the other options, its pretty hard to complain about it.  I will say Im excited to see a 7 footer on the team not named Garnett that will be able to knock down a midrange J.  Ive been screaming for Perk to start shooting his, but he never does.  I think Moore wont be a difference maker but I think he will be a positive addition to this team.

.....by the way, I know Im not a mod or anything but after reading through this thread some of us need to be a little more tactful with our responses to people sometimes.  Not everyone on this board is an expert.  Not everyone on this board knows the ins and outs of basketball and every player in the NBA.  However, everyone on this board is entitled to their own opinion and I think some of us need to dial the sarcastic nasty responses down a little bit.  I understand people on here make claims and statements that are completely 100% percent wrong sometimes, but theres a right way and a wrong way to correct them.  It's starting to become hard on this board to make a post or comment about a subject or player that youre not 150% educated on.  We're all rooting for the same team, lets give each other a break sometimes.  Just my opinion, I apologize if I come off sounding high and mighty myself.

Go C's!
Greg

assuming joe smith doesnt get bought out, who's your alternative to mikki to upgrade length off the bench to play against the playoff bigs then?

times getting short, we had a baaaddd offseason with regards to plugging the holes left by posey and PJ.

Beggers, which we are quickly becoming in this buisness, cannot be choosers.

I don't know why Joe Smith is extremely desired on this site. He's a solid role player. However, under the right circumstances I don't see how Smith is better than Moore. Let's put Smith in the Posey category of most overrated players on celticsblog.

Agree 100%.  He's one of the worst first round draft choices ever made (along with LaRue Martin and Michael Olowokandi) and has become the NBA equivalent of Suitcase Simpson.
Greg Oden is starting to move into this category, that's what happens when your really 40 and have osteoporosis.

It's off-topic, but great point about Oden. Seems it was almost universally assumed that he was going to be the next great center, but I honestly never saw him play a really good game(only seen him about a half-dozen times though) and never understood the hype. But if he's ever really healthy, and he improves his game, he has the potential to be as good as Perk.
And since I'm way off topic anyway, has any other player in the NBA improved his game as much since he came into the league as Perk? Subject for another thread I guess.

chris mihm...he's better than moore...a true center (he may even have more skill than perk)...and will have a LOT of incentive against the lakers come june.

While I share your assessment of Danny's awful, awful off-season, I would remind you of what happened the last time Ainge didn't do a smidgen of due diligence on the backup 5 position.

Patrick O'Blount. Despite all the glowing, factually-unsupported assurances on this board that Danny's doing everything he can to land Joe Smith, I prefer to look at his record: It's awful since Game 6 of the Finals ended.

I think I would rather have Moore than Mihm.

Moore has played meaningful minutes in playoff games (even though the outcomes haven't been great); Mihm has not.  Mihm has a terrible history when it comes to injuries; Moore has been relatively injury free the past few years...

if mihm can stay healthy for the next few months then that's all we need.  we're not thinking long-term here, just get us through june.

i think playoff experience is overrated...if you're a veteran, that's all that matters.

but you and i will disagree regarding mihm vs. moore...i believe mihm is a good player.  injuries aside, he could be a huge help to this team because he's big, athletic, and he'll matchup well against the true centers.
