I haven't scoured the web and didn't see any broadcasts so there may well be some out there, but I didn't hear any direct quotes from Sam Cassell about the trade to Sacramento.  I know there's not a heck of a lot to say about it, but Sam's never been at a loss for words.

Does anyone have any links or memory of a quote from Sam on the trade?

I'm just curious to know what his mindset is.

I haven't heard any quotes, But hes already been waived by the Kings, to make space for the Deal with Chicago thats going down, so i wouldn't be surprised to see him back as assistant coach very soon.
"Sam Cassell was heckling on the sideline when I walked down, He looked at me and was like, ‘You're getting the ball, I know you're getting the ball!'
said Allen.

And did Cassell, a man of many words, have anything to say after that?

"No, I told him he needed to wear a tie."

I'm sure he's at terms with / even involved in what's going on.

He'll be back.
God bless and good night!

I thought the same thing when I heard about the Kings/Bulls deal.

if you really think about this trade its a really good one.

We traded our first round pick to Minnesotta for KG, that pick would be 29 or 30.

The Kings are so bad that their second round pick COULD POSSIBLY be as little as 5 down from that.

I'm pretty sure that "heavily protected 2nd round pick" would protect Sacramento from a top 5 pick in the 2nd round.

That was a "heavily protected" 2nd round pick in 2015!  That's as close to nothing as you can get.

BTW, the NBA cap situation is so strange ... does anybody have any clue as to why Cassell was ever signed, if he never even played a minute, and now we can use a little guard help?  I'm sure it has something to do with the cap, but can't figure it out.

It's a good question.  My guess would be as an extreme insurance policy, while at the same time serving as a mentor.  I'm not sure why the team just didn't sign Sam as a coach who practiced with the team, but potentially it was to keep his salary as a potential trading chip.

I still think they had a plan to bring him back late in the season for the playoff run, thinking he had some left in the tank.  Clearly, they decided they made a mistake, and decided to cut bait though.  No harm, no foul.

i think he's going to get bought out and return to be signed as a coach. i can't see him wanting to play for a non-contender at his age.

That may very well still be the plan.

ya considering the kings just said they plan to buy him out, i dont see how this plan isn't a very real option.

Im quite sure the celtics told him he's either getting resigned as a player if there targets don't get bought out or he's back as a coach this year or next, its the only way he'd agree to go to the worst team in the NBA and then that team magically buys him out a day later.

It was a money deal, it gets the kings $$ and saves us $$ from the tax deamon. I still consider him a celtic in reserve to be honest.
