Per Chris Sheridan of ESPN:

"Kevin Garnett's fifth foul came with 6:14 remaining in regulation, and he went out with his sixth foul -- a legitimate call after he shoved Fisher after Pau Gasol slapped the ball away -- just under two minutes later, leaving the Celtics to play the final 9½ minutes of the 110-109 overtime loss without their emotional and defensive leader. "

Totally forgets to mention that Gasol slapped Garnett's hand, not the ball. And did KG shove Fisher? I did not see that.

ESPN: Where BS happens.

Sheriden is wrong. Garnett didn't do anything to legitimatly draw a foul on that play. Gasol however hit him across the arms (an arm chop if you will) right before that play which should have been a foul. So was the play where Odom went over the back on KG and Reggie Miller stated they could have called a foul there but just gave the Celtics the ball.

Most Lakers fans thought that was a foul, at least judging by the quasi-trolls who weighed in on the subject last night.

KGs last 3 foul calls were not legitimate...anyone who thinks the last one was should be slapped across the head...watch the [dang] replay, KG gets fouled 2-3 times and then gorillaa face fisher flops and somehow draws a foul on the highest paid player in the  league...he fouled out in 30 minutes of play... what, is it 1997 again?

Sheridan lost all credibility in my book with that comment.  I sent him an email let him know it too.

In a game chock full of bed officiating (going both ways) that call on KG was without a doubt the worst.  And the replay clearly showed Pau tomahawking both of KG's forearms before DFish practically tackled him.

BSPN is right.

I hate to sound this dramatic, because it wasnt the playoffs and we should be thankful for that - but I just saw the replay of KG's last foul and it might have been the worst call I' ever seen..ever.... How blind, bias or dumb do you have to be to call that a legitimate foul? KG got fouled, and fouled hard on the arm 3 times and from the angle I saw never even fouled fisher

The last play with ray, eh...Im actually fine with that no-call...but the KG fouling out was ridicoulous, just watch the re-play it doesnt lie

Pau Gasol slapped the ball away? what is this idiot talking about? did he even touch the ball? he pounded KGs arm twice and then fisher did the same thing

Im suprised KG kept his composure with that call

Read that this morning and was pretty surprised, I immediately checked to see if it was an article written by Adande. Oh well, we see things one way, nationally they seem them another, still a bad call though regardless of partisanship.

10 of 11 "BSPN" experts picked the C's to lose to the Fakers last year. Bring it on.

Gasol hit him several times, not just once.  There were about three fouls made by Gasol before the contact with Fisher happened.  And the contact with Fisher was debatable.  Fisher hit him as much as Garnett hit Fisher.

I will say that the refs arguably realized their mistake and started giving Pierce calls he wasn't getting earlier.  But Pierce probably should have gotten those calls earlier, given that this in the NBA, where stars get calls.

Still, despite a little help for Pierce, it doesn't make up for Garnett's absence.  If the refs didn't blow that, the C's win the game.

the call that p---ed me off the most was the ref WAITING for the lakers to attempt a shot, watching rondo foul kobe, but waits to blow the whistle for a shot attempt. 3 point play wahoo!

I gotta tell ya, if the superstars of this league get the benefit of the doubt from the refs, than the NBA Champs need to get at the least...fair calls.

I am very surprised that for a defending NBA Championship team, we are getting very disrespected by the league and by the refs.

Normally if we have built up a reputation where we play physical defense, we are supposed to get away with more than other teams, YET we are getting away with less than ticky tacky fouls.

It is absurd.

The funny thing is no one is talking about KG's fifth foul. Gasol had the ball towards the corner along the right baseline and squatted close to Gasol getting a low base and outstretched his arms and the ref called a foul because KG got close with his body. Close, but never touched him. It was the most ticky tack ridiculous thng I'd ever seen.

Remember when KG did the same thing to Bosh in a game against Toronto a couple of weeks ago. Well that play was the exact same thing only KG wasn't as close to Gasol as he was Bosh. But they blew the whistle.

Then down the other end, KG gets the offensive rebound, Gasol clearly bumps him with the body and twice hacks his arms to jar loose the ball. Then Fischer jumps on the floor after the ball and semi crashes into KG and KG gets the foul. Given the ridiculous lack of contact on KG's fifth foul one has to question where the consistency was when two Lakers were craching inot KG and yet KG was getting called for the foul.

yet the zen master went out of his way to say it was a crap call in the postgame interview.

I thought that it was prudent of Phil to not let his team think they pwned us. He smartly is keeping his team aware that they need to work hard to beat us.

That officiating crew is inexcusable for a game of that magnitude.

Leon Wood in particular, who's proving that an inept NBA player can be an even worse official.
