I don't think Cassell replaces House.

I think he replaces TA.

Cassell running the point on offense and House defending the point on defense.

That works great. Sam can shut down practically any 2-guard in the league. He'll do a much better job on Kobe than Tony did last night.

If we're going to run people out of the lineup can't we start with people who have a negative impact on the team when they play?

Like the TA/House backcourt had on the teams offense when Kobe was on the bench?

I meant over the course of the year, not over 10 minutes in an individual game.

Well then do the Celtics play Kobe over the course of the year or in just an individual game?

And those 10 minutes of the Laker games, if the offense is running better, and Kobe isn't on the floor?

Because come playoff time, there shouldn't be any minutes where Kobe (or Lebron) is on the floor when both Pierce and Ray are on the bench.
Sure there are. When we're up 20 points late we shouldn't try to match their desperation in the rotations. Especially if there are more games to come.

I do agree though in any normal situation that would be a terrible idea, even if KG is out there still.

Leon played good last night, but he is a joke offensively and he can't hit free throws, and i loved Leon. but you can't just look at his stats and say he had good games vs. bad games. he's also dropping passes and turning the ball over.

Leon's sole purpose should be grabbing offensive boards and putting them back in.

BBD has the potential to be more than that and has shown that he is capable in his second year, thats why he started in the absense of KG and Scal.

And yet the facts show that his turnovers have dropped each month of the season and this magical horrible "month" in January he averaged almost half of BBD's don't matter. The fact that BBD's month of January where he was somehow this hugely improved player his turnovers doubled from earlier in the year. Yeah. None of that matters. We wouldn't want to look at the truth now when just making things up is so much easier... That's why this discussion is always so maddening. The facts and truth don't really matter. It is always about potential and the little things that "no one notices" except you really perceptive people... I guess the stat guys don't notice either...

EJ,

TP for you!  About time somebody stood up for Powe!  In 4 of the games at the end of January, Powe played 7, 8, 9 and 11 minutes.  Maybe Powe was playing poorly during that stretch but playing limited minutes certainly doesn't help a player's confidence. I know the Powe naysayers will say that's all he deserved.  I think Powe is more of the type of player we've seen the last two games as opposed to the one we saw at the end of January.  Stats may not mean much to many on this board, but over the course of a season, Powe will give you 7 pts and 4 rebounds in 15 minutes and a charge on the defensive end.  BBD has had better coaching in his lifetime and it shows on the court.  But Powe has that certain intangible that, game in, game out gets him points and rebounds.  After doing this for nearly 3 years now, I don't think it's luck but a skill where Powe puts up decent numbers in limited time.

It'll be interesting to see which player the Celtics keep at the end of the year.  I do think BBD has potential because his girth/strength seems to help in defending taller players. If Powe leaves because management feels BBD has more potential, then Powe can go to a lesser team and perhaps become the 15/8 player I think he's capable of being.  If Powe stays, then management feels that Powe can contribute to championship caliber Celtic teams which won't be bad for Powe.

Ainge can't turn turds into roses. We have no assets to trade. He should have grabbed Deke when he had the chance.

None of our bench player has enough quality to fill the role of 6th man in a contender. I think this is becoming more and more clear as the season progresses.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Scal may be the best option available. If he continues to play like he did before he got hurt. He's competent at the 4/5, defends well and can spread the floor. The problem with the bench is its full on undersized players who are really versatile. Eddie is the only shooter in there and playing him at the point limits his effectiveness. The good thing is the record with this bench is pretty good so I'm hoping an addition or two will plug in the glaring holes.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.
