Admittedly my interest in this guy started when I had the last pick in my 2 round Rotisserie rookie draft (26th pick) and called my Dad to ask his advice.  He suggested David Lee.  He's become a bit of a binky ever since.  Since day one in the league, the guy has shown a propensity to grab a bunch of boards and shoot a very high percentage given the minutes.

His #'s for January:  18+ PPG, 13+ RPG and just under .600 from the field.  He's had 10 straight double-doubles (that streak would be 19, but for a 9 rebound game). There are knocks against him (he doesn't block shots and might be more of garbage rebounder /  as opposed to a body up, block out kind of guy)...But really, regardless of his method, he's getting a ton of boards, night in and night out.

There have been whispers that the Knicks don't like him for their system and would like to move him.  I just don't get it.  The guy produces and has improved steadily throughout his career.

Am I missing something on Lee?

Yup

Yeah...  I traded Lee + Beasley for Chris Bosh in a keeper league at the beginning of the season, and everybody was telling me I got a steal.  I argued that the trade was fair, and on balance, that it might bite me in the backside.  At this point, it's looking more and more like I was right, and everybody else was wrong.

I must really be getting better and back into work mode, because I thought that this was a thread about the Boston Real Estate Investor David Lee.

I haven't heard that he doesn't fit in their system, especially as it seems that he's fitting it quite well.  That said, Lee is a restricted free agent this coming summer, and the Knicks appear firmly entrenched in "Not committing anything to anyone beyond 2010" mode right now, and surprisingly enough, that might even apply to Lee.  Odd, because I figured he'd be a piece that they might went to have around when they start pursuing FAs in 2010, but the cap space might actually be more valuable.  So to that end, I wouldn't be shocked if they moved him, though I think we could see them make an exception to the "no pre-'10 long-term" plan for him.

Also, it is of note that Lee really isn't a good interior defender, and he isn't going to do much to create his own shot.  Still, he gives you plenty (both in fantasy and, more significantly, on the court), as you've alluded to above, Redz.

When you factor pace and playing time, his numbers are still awesome, just not that awesome. However, some things must be factored: he's not such a good offensive rebounder, his defence is iffy, although I think he does a decent job when paired with players of his size, D'Antoni's system is great for a player with his skill-set.

Still, a very solid big, who hustles, finish well around the rim and is terrific running the pick'n'roll, being effective and efficient without stopping the ball or being the focal point of his team. Great player if you don't value shot creation and interior defence; otherwise just good. I do believe he'll get a bigger contract than he deserves though.

Look, I've always really liked David Lee's game and can't even think about this because I'll start picturing him as a backup big on our team and know how remote the chances of that ever happening really are.  :'(

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
He is a very good player but he is certainly helped by the D'Antoni system. I think in the future it would be a good idea to pick up players in fantasy that play for the Knicks.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

David Lee is a BEAST! He & Duhan have the same chemistry as Nash & stoudemire do just not the same caliber players. The pick & roll with these guys is pretty much unstoppable. His defense is aweful, he can't keep up with athletic PF. Overall he getting better but won't be great.
