A torn MCL is the best possible serious knee injury. He was lucky and hopefully he can come back before the start of the play-offs and take advantage of the 2 first rounds to get in form.

I hear all this talk about people being upset because the Lakers have a built-in excuse.  Let's take a step back for a minute.  What's worse?  Being upset about the opponent having an excuse as to why they lost, or being the team with the devastating injury?

I would never wish injury on any player, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over an opponent losing a player to injury.  I'm just gonna be thankful it didn't happen to one of our players, and continue on with the season.

The excuses thing is lame.  Did the championship last year feel any less awesome because Andrew Bynum wasn't playing and the Faker fans gave that as an excuse as to why we beat them down?  Nope.  My shirts, flags, magazines, etc. all say "2008 NBA WORLD CHAMPIONS", not "2008 TEAM THAT BEAT THE LAKERS WITHOUT ANDREW BYNUM.".

It still counted as our 17th title, and it wasn't the first time we've beaten the Lakers in the Finals without them have a fully healthy team.  And the reverse has happened as well.  It happens all the time in sports.

If they wanna make the Bynum excuse just tell them, "I hear ya... we would have won in 1987, 1988, 1989, etc if Bird hadn't been injured and if one of our franchise players hadn't died before putting on a Celtic jersey."

I don't like the Lakers, but this is good news for Bynum and the NBA

Look, if they use the Bynum excuse, they are exactly the b****es we knew they were.  KG is down with the flu and we aim to win anyway.

Let me tell you something, Celtic Nation, if LeCrab or Kobe the Rapist ever go down, those teams are automatically .500 teams at best.  Let them put that in their pipes and smoke it.

I'll be curious to see the healing time.  people are pointing to slow healing last time, but that was a different knee and a significantly more serious injury.  this one isnt that serious.  I mean, sure it will take time to heal up, but a torn mcl is common when it comes to athletes.

From what I understand though this is the same knee he blew out his ACL in his senior year of high school. Big question will be how does that effect his recovery. With his recent healing time history I'd expect he's done for the season.

How you figure?    They beat us earlier this year with him, right?

Seriously it's a huge blow to the Lakers.  Check out his last 5 games prior to the injury:

42 points, 15 rebounds, 3 blocks.
23 points, 14 rebounds, 1 block
15 points, 11 rebounds 4 blocks
24 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks
27 points, 15 rebounds, 2 blocks

They beat us twice in the finals without him too, i think hes a difference maker, but not the one lakers would have you believe..all year ive been more concerned with the cavs than the lakers with bynum

Yeah the kid is absolutely a player.  I don't know if he would put them over the top against us when compared to last year, but if I was a Faker fan I'd feel pretty good about having him in there.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Back then, the Lakers initially announced the injury as a sprain -- just as they did this time.

But the injury was again far worse than a sprain, and the Lakers set a recovery timetable of 8-12 weeks Monday in announcing that Bynum tore the medial collateral ligament in his right knee in a collision with Bryant in Memphis two nights earlier.

Last season, Bynum was also expected to be sidelined 8-12 weeks after bruising a bone in his left knee and briefly dislocating his kneecap. Instead, he missed the final 46 games of the season and watched as the Lakers lost in the NBA Finals.

Yeah just like last season.  Do you think the Lakers just like to keep things optimistic instead of saying "season-ending injury"?

Maybe he'll come back... but if it's anything like last year... he's done.

...i highly doubt he comes back like he is playing now if he even does...it is a 12 week injury...and it puts them 2 weeks into the playoffs by then....just don't see him coming back...and even if he does...he will not be 100 percent
