Short memory here on CelticsBlog tonight. Do we forget the cheap shot, body slam Maxiell laid on Rondo last year? The C's did not retaliate at that time, but you bet a guy like Perkins remembers.

Max is probably the scariest guy in the NBA, and Perk took him down firmly and safely - that looked like a textbook high school wrestling headlock.

Rondo is probably the skinniest guy in the NBA, and Max took him out while he was in the air. Cowardly.

Somewhere, Tommy is smiling.
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

I agree completely. I do wish it were a slight bit more clandestine but at the same time it sent a message. I had forgotten he took Rondo out last year but that makes it all the better. Fouling hard on a drive is much worse then what Perk did as it's far more dangerous. Perk also did the right thing by walking away too. Any team the wants compete in the playoffs needs at least one enforcer and we have two, maybe three.

Everyone keep this is mind...every Celtic is asked to fill their role one the team. Perk's role is to be an enforcer in the middle. He was simply doing is job.

Interesting point TP for awareness.  I thought it was hard foul and no big deal.  Keep it up Perk.

Just a question, I didn't watch the game but in the recap from yahoo I think it said they gave the ejection after they watched the replay?  I'd really like them to get rid of replays on a play like this, if you look at every view their is going to be one view that shows it as a dirty play.
do it

I don't mind Perk belting an opposition player ever once and a while just to keep them thinking.  If one opposition layup is missed because the player thinks Perk is about to thump him then having him drop the hammer every now and then is a good thing if you ask me.

As far as the "If it was Maxiel doing it to Perk it would be a different story" rationale....sure it be different. I'd be calling Maxiel the biggest punk/thug since Laimbeer and every other name I could think of. I think most fans'd be in the same boat. I've never pretended I don't have double standards when it comes to supporting my team and players. Reason number 4,498,328 why I love sports.

this is a quote from perk in the globe:

Quote
"I tried to foul him by hitting his arms, but he stuck his neck down," Perkins said. "It was not like I wanted to hit him that hard. I never try to hurt anybody. I wanted to give him a hard foul and I closed my eyes, so I don't know how I hit him. He pushed me in the back. I'll face the consequences but I wasn't trying to hurt anyone."

It wasn't even a flagrant 2.

The officials did everything they could to help the home town team last night, and Perk's ejection was just part of it.

The NBA really has to get over the Detroit-Indiana brawl.  Their ridiculous attempt to make everyone play like Little Lord Fauntleroy has already cost Phoenix a playoff series and it is transforming the game into the athletic equivalent of Wonder Bread.

I love Perk.  TP for Michael for the support.  Perk is our enforcer and he was just enforcing.   I think the Pistons played a little more tentative after Perk's take down, even though Perk wasn't in the game any more.  Since Bynum didn't get a suspension for putting a guy in the hospital, Perk shouldn't get a suspension for a foul in which no one got hurt.

But it is going to make Maxiell think before trying to bully the Celtics again.  Sometimes you have to say enough is enough and make a stand.

I don't think Rambus was ever the same after McHale's take down either.
