what's everyone's opinion of shaq making the team for the west?  personally, i don't see it.  this seems based upon his history and not his current play.  but i could be wrong...

Shaq deserves it, he's had a lot of 20-10 games this year and is even slightly better than atrocious at FTs now.  The only knock on him was all the games he sat out.  It's too bad for Big Al but Al over Shaq isn't exactly a slam-dunk argument.

I can't really say Rondo got snubbed. He's helped a LOT by the team he's on, and even then, he's not putting up numbers like some of the other guys. 11/8/5/2 is terrific, but if we're choosing the 12 best guys in the conference, I'm not gonna choose Rondo.

No, you're going to choose players that Rondo outplayed like Harris and Nelson. While it doesn't matter towards the all-star game, defense matters.

I dont think outplayed is enough for those 3 games.

I'm going with destroyed utterly.

Still, thats not bad, but ray not going? travesty.

IMO either harris or nelson should have made it, but not both. 3 PG's on the team is stupid.

I think missing those games should seriously be a reason Shaq should not go. But then again the game is in PHX so it is not surprising he made it.

I think they should combine PF/C and maybe SG/SF in the voting. I agree Ray deserves to be in, but not with the current rules in place. I can't put him ahead of Joe Johnson. Say what you want, but Jameer Nelson is having an all-star year (Mo Williams wasn't in the discussion until the last 2 weeks and Rondo can't go in without Ray there).

Shaq and AI make sense too because they're fan favorites and make the game exciting (Shaq's gotta defend his dance-off crown anyways). I'd love for KD and Big Al to go, but they'll get there sooner than later. Outside of Boston and Minny people really don't know Al, and KD's hype faded once he hit the pros. I wish they could put them or Melo there instead of Pau, but whatever.

Saying what I want then, Nelson is not having an All-Star year.  He plays on a winning team, yes, but his assists for a point guard aren't that great at all, not close to Rondo's who is also on a winning team.  His scoring #s aren't eye-popping, and if that is because he is a point guard on a winning team, see the previous point.  Just what is it that suggests he is having an All-Star year then?

Ray Allen, though? Seriously? His shooting is absolutely incredible, and it's not because he won't get the attention of Pierce and Garnett. The man makes his own offense, shoots from everywhere, and has been perhaps the best offensive player on this team. He's got the 3rd best TS% of players playing 30+ minutes a game, behind Nene and Calderon.

He's an all-star. If someone (God forbid) gets hurt and can't play, he'd better be the first guy they call.

Iverson is a joke. West is a joke. Lewis is kind of a joke.

Right on, on all accounts.

I actually disagree, theres 2 different sides to the rondo stats argument, if he was playing on a worse team he would get more minutes and put up better stats, because the team would need more from him, that and he makes the big 3 better, without a good point guard, they would be an average team, and where would KG be this season without rondo feeding him right at the basket perfectly? his jumpshot is absent and he has no go-to the basket moves, all fade-aways..ray allens better play this season can also be contributed to rondo..imo of course

I don't know KG did fine in Minny without much help. There is no reason to drag down other players on the team to lift another one up. They are all on the same team. Where would the team be without KGs energy and defense?

Im not trying to knock KG, and thats a testament to my point, KG had bigger stats on a bad team with not as much help, meaning its actually harder for rondo to put up much better scoring numbers with 3 hof's to distrubte to than it would be on a team needing more from him..
KG was very rusty to start the season, his jumpshot was off, Im just saying, where would he be without rondo feeding him easy bucket after easy bucket...it goes both ways, why is it okay to "knock" rondo for playing with KG and not vice-versa

True. Rondo may have the help of the Big 3 but Rondo makes their jobs easier as well.

I'm not a fan of Harris and Nelson both making it, should have been one of them or Rondo. I think you can make a good case for all of them. Ray has played at as a high a level as all three of those PGs and done so more consistently.

Oh well Ray made plenty of All-Star games in his past. Rondo will make a few in the future.

I'm not happy about Rashard Lewis. I'm not a fan of his game. He's like Sheed but without the defense or even the minimum of posting he does.

Concentrating solely on guards, I think Jameer and Harris were deserving and even though I would've put Ray on, I understand the logic behind them before Ray. Joe Johnson should've been the odd man out if the decision was between Ray and one other person. For Joe Johnson to be included one of Harris or Nelson should've been scrapped, but not Ray. Anyways, points wise (which is really Joe Johnson's biggest draw to be an all-star) is not overwhelmingly better than Ray's, and then you consider the level of efficiency (less shots and less minutes) Ray has been and his consistency throughout the whole year, it was simply a no brainer that Ray should've been put in instead of Joe. Joe has had quite an underwhelming January, and just because of that he should've been left out. He was a shoe-in earlier in the season when he was putting up "monster" numbers, but his game hasn't been as good as of late.

Sure, Allen got snubbed; but the rest will be great for the balance of the team.
I think its good we've got two of our "big four" getting rest, and two of them in the all-star game to keep up the intensity that we're carrying.
A good balance.
Practice? Whatchu talkin about practice?

Did not read this thread. Has anyone noticed that Big Al did not make the All Star Game? I think that is the biggest travesty of all. I know Shaq has had a good comeback year, and the game is in Phoenix, but come on, Big Al's numbers are much better, especially considering he plays in back to backs, while Shaq does not.

eh, not as maddening as the Magic getting 3 freaking players in, Take 3 from the champs, or 2 from each top team, but 3 from the magic? sickening. might as well throw hedo in there to give em 4.

Im not suprised about al jeff not making it

I think it would be an even bigger slap in the face if the league turned aruond and picked Ray Allen for the 3pt contest.  He's already done that and won.  He's not gonna cancel a vacation for the 3pt contest.

They need to put Eddie in the contest.
