Well, I understand where you are coming from, but I'll tell you where the fun in that is...I never have and never will be arrested for DUI, there is zero chance of me becoming an alcoholic, and there is no chance of me committing vehicular homicide while under the influence.  Consider my peace of mind as being where the fun is.

Believe me, I have made a ton of stupid mistakes in my life and been ashamed of many of my choices.  Thus, I sympathize with Gabe and everyone else who has made such a mistake.  However, no one can explain away the loss of a loved one from a drunk driver.  I've taken a deposition of a woman in prison who lost everything because she got drunk and went for a drive to vent about a fight with her husband.  The result of her mistake, two dead kids riding on a motorcycle.  To hear her broke my heart for both her and the families that lost their kids.  Senseless.

Now on a lighter note, the Clippers' game could have driven me to drink if there was anything in the house here, but we all have to admit that driving after drinking is careless.

CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

I'm with you, I drank for four years and after getting alcohol poisoning last April I decided the stuff just is not for me. I do feel so much better about myself now. The negative factors of alcohol outweigh the positive factors(If you think there are any, in my opinion there aren't) by a long shot.

I can honestly say I will never drink alcohol again after the experiences I have had and the praise I have been given from family, friends, and professors for stopping before it could get any worse.

i know it sounds amazing, but there are non-drinkers and drug-free virgins still alive on planet earth...

it's not a disease or a mental problem, but an admirable quality.

Funny, I don't find non-drinking admirable or not-admirable, I simply find it some one's choice -- and a choice that should be respected.

What isn't admirable is questioning that choice.  In fact, not drinking is far more admirable than the sickness of alcoholism that decimated 3 of my grandparents.  That being said, I like a cold beer every now and then and I am one of the fools who's had the audacity to drink and drive.

To those who chose not to drink, that's cool please do not condemn those who chose to drink responsibly.  Those who drink responsibly, please respect the decision to pass on the process.  And those who still are blubbering idiots once and awhile - here's hoping you don't learn the hard way that it ain't what its chalked up to be.

I am very libertarian of substances like pot and alcohol, though I don't get drunk myself. If people enjoy getting drunk, then let them enjoy it. Nothing wrong with that. But if you don't have a way home that doesn't involve driving, than you can't drink.

Very simple stuff.

tp for the topic and tp to my fellow teetotalers and everyone else with the basic sense to oppose and avoid drunk driving... yes i went through every page and i hope i didn't miss anyone.

as for the cell phone stuff. do they actually have data showing people having been on cell phones while in an accident? it seems to me that most people wouldn't admit to being on a phone.

i'm not saying that it's a good idea to talk on the phone while driving, but i really doubt it's as bad as alcohol.

i've gone through several articles on the subject that supposedly proves that cell phone use is as bad or worse than drunk driving. what they do is monitor the person driving... usually in a simulator, which is very different from actual driving. they then assess how well they drove by asking them questions like what they might recall seeing while driving. if they fail to remember seeing a certain car or sign, then their "chances" of getting into an accident go up. they also monitor eye tracking. this is a strange method of study. imagine you're taking a driving test with this eye tracker strapped to your head. you're gonna do a better job of looking at what you're supposed to. but then when you get drunk or talk on the cell phone you going to forget about the eye tracker and your eye placement will normalize. this is mostly my feeling on the subject. if anyone knows better or works with eye trackers, please enlighten me.

researchers can't actually put people into a situations where the real danger of an accident exists and therefore i don't trust all these studies. i think it's mostly just a craze right now that allows researchers to easily get grants cause it looks so great in the media. cell phones as bad as drunk driving!

that being said, it's probably a better idea not to use a cell phone in the car.

Why do you guys make it like drinking makes you a bad person? (Not talking about DUI).  It doesn't make you get behind the wheel and doesn't turn you into an alcholic.
