knock on wood, but i've done it hundreds of times.  never had an incident or an accident or a conviction.

is it tremendously irresponsible and reprehensible?  definitely.  but it is what it is.  gotta get home somehow.  baltimore is far too dangerous a city to go walking around looking for a cab in the late hours of the night.  i'm much safer drunk as a skunk behind the wheel, than at the mercy of the thuggish gangbangers that pillage and plunder this town on a nightly basis.

 ??? :-X :-\ :-[ Huh?!!!

i know.  i know.  i'm the worst person ever.  just put me in jail right now.  whatever.

i'm just being honest.  Baltimore is a war zone.  my car gets broken into a couple times a year.  68% of all murders go unsolved (94 out of 234)*.  am i wrong for putting the lives of other drivers at risk when i drive home hammered?  indeed i am.  but in a town that's as fubar as this one, i'm the last thing the locals should be worried about on these streets.

Well, at least you're honest.
I didn't say you were the worst person
ever. But if you kill someone's daughter
or son driving drunk, I think you're in
as much danger, if their father finds you.

Yeah, but just remember all it's going to take is one accident where someone gets seriously hurt or dies for you to be spending time convincing other gang bangers that you have the right stuff to join their gang in prison as protection against having a bunch of guys use you as their own personal blow up doll.

A future is a terrible thing to waste for a night out partying, especially your own. It's just not worth it, no matter how you justify it.

Yeah, agreed.  It's probably better to stop drinking, or only frequent bars / clubs that have a taxi stand, than it is to risk 10 years in prison for criminally negligent homicide.

I use to do it a lot in College. No only drunk driving but under other substances too which is essentially the same thing. Never got in an accident or arrested. Yet two years ago on Xmas eve my little brothers close friend hit a tree while drunk driving and died, he was only 21. Never again have I done that. After seeing the family go through it, i would never want to do that to mine, or any one else

Twice.  Pulled over on one of the occasions.  I acted as sober as possible.  He still made me get out walk the line, count to 30, stand on one foot, etc etc.  Passed all those somehow.  I was pulling into the parking lot for my dorm so he let me go without a breathalyzer.  He even knew I probably wouldn't have passed that, I knew I definitely wouldn't have passed it.  Definitely one of the more scarier moments for my life, DUIs can hurt you pretty good.

I think theres always the drink close to home alternative
so minimize the risk.

I think there are a lot of blog readers out there like you who aren't posting out of embarassment. In response to your post, I know exactly where you're coming from, and there are many people who do the same thing you do, but you need to recognize that you have more than 2 choices. It's not just drive drunk, or walk home drunk. There are designated drivers, taxis, or not getting drunk at all.
