Glenn "Team Killer" Davis scores 5 pts in 13 minutes as the Celtics beat the Raptors!! Davis also had 5 boards.

James "Show Me the Money" Posey scores 2 points in 29 minutes and the Hornets lose to the Knicks, falling to 22-12.  Posey also had 5 rebounds.

In fact, Davis did not play well defensively, and for all I know, Posey played quite well.

But these numbers point up the fallacy of throwing numbers around.  What matters is winning.

It also exposes the myth that somehow the Celtics would be so much better with Posey.

I agree with you that throwing numbers around, like Davis 1-12, is dumb if he's making up for it on the defensive end. But how does this expose the myth that Posey would not make the C;s so much better? We both know Posey is a way better player than Davis.

There is a reason why Posey was Danny's first choice and why he was willing to sign Posey for 3 years. Danny also felt the team would be better with Posey. He was willing to do the 3 years which he already felt might be too much of a commitment but worth it, but not 4 years.

The fact that TA and House are only signed for 2 years make it seem pretty clear that the front office would have preferred Posey.

Posey is averaging 10/5 and has an amazing .636 eFG%.  Posey has been one of the most efficient perimeter players in the entire NBA this season.

BBD is averaging 4/3, and is shooting a robust 34.5% (which is also his eFG%, as he doesn't have three point range).  He's one of the least efficient offensive "bigs" in the NBA.

If you're going to make a statistical argument, I'd suggest you use a sample size greater than one game.  Statistics are based upon averages over time, which should be common sense to anybody capable of reading this blog.

(Again, if you want to compare BBD to somebody of his skill level, Scal is the man.  And once again, Scal outproduced the round mound of inefficiency.)

Glen had limited minutes tonight and produced decently in them. He gave up too many fouls though. He'll always be at his best in limited minutes like tonight.

BBD was terrible defensively, and mediocre offensively (which is a step up from him normal offensive production).  The only good thing he did was hit the boards.

I honestly cannot figure out why Glen Davis is on this team, other than the fact that they can't find another 6-7 backup center to take his place --  ;D

Vin Baker and Antione Walker are both available too. Might have to have a refrigerator next to the end of the bench full of Sam Adams to keep those two entertained.

I think Hobbs is in the same boat as me, but I'm now getting angry when I see Big Blubber Davis on the court. Its passed from logical to visceral.

i think THAT is the whole reason he is on the team... along with maybe someone to tease and make fun of in the locker room.

Does it really matter???

Does one mediocre game from Glenn make him more valuable than Posey was last year in the playoffs??
